So glad you realize this! Highway 20 in Michigan City is so full of large pot holes, I-94 seems to be the better way to go. To think that I almost went out in this, traveling in the same area around the time the accident happened...![]()

Sad to see this and RIP. but is this situation a career killer? Do all these truckers get fired? -
Depends on the company they work for

Those weather conditions, rapidly fluctuating visibility down to 0 visibility, remind me of driving back and forth across I-80 in Wyoming. The big difference in NW Indiana that makes it an impossible scenario is TRAFFIC. The overconfident, ####y drivers in a rush certainly don't help.
When I see weather forcasted to be like what is in the Great Lakes area with all the normal, everyday congestion thrown in to boot, I either find a motel or book a long load going to less congested areas. I sympathize with those that don't have that option. Their lives truly are at high risk, and there isn't much any driver can do to stay out of that crunch zone once it's in play. Even if you pull over to stop, you'll still get nailed.Marksteven Thanks this. -
Some might get canned, but others not, depends on each drivers past driving record, and each companies policies and the like. This is why I have a steadfast rule, I will never drive on slick and unsafe roads. I'll pull into a truck stop and wait it out, not worth dying for!

I believe you and I will have to agree to disagree on this issue. Ive spent to many winters running the northwest, and other winters nothing but Cleveland to Chicago. Got caught in plenty of white out conditions. You know what kept me from slamming into the guys in front of me when they inevitable panicked and hit the brakes? I was running at a speed that allowed enough stopping distance. The ONLY time a rear end collision is not preventable is when you get one of those guys trying to get a pay day by pulling directly in front of you and braking hard. It all comes down to maintaining proper following distance.Skydivedavec, Scorcher21, milskired and 1 other person Thank this.

pretty much the only thing u are not going to be able to prevent is a truck jackknifing while he is next to you or a 4 wheeler spinning out right next to you, if that happens you are pretty much at the mercy of the laws of physics and god.
Marksteven, KeithT1967 and milskired Thank this. -
That's right. Add in the pay day seeking guys and everything else can be prevented.
