A good pay package would start you off at .37-.38, but beware of companies that heavily advertise figures of .48-.50 a mile, usually they will stick you in the northeast only region with very low mileage, and sometimes even require you to be out 3-4 weeks. Check into some other small companies, the one I work at starts off at . 37, and there's a fat mileage bonus on top of that for getting 10k miles a month, I run a lot of Midwest - n.e, and it's good running, about 1200 miles one way, then bounce back west, and once in a while run a couple of shorty loads when my hours get thin... The only thing is some small outfits will have a very limited running area, such as I-80 corridor, for example. Best thing is to get with one of their drivers and ask about them or grill the recruiter/hr person doing the hiring for those outfits. AND AVOID LEASE PURCHASE OUTFITS. PERIOD.

One thing to keep in mind is this:
A LOT of companies have a starting pay scale "Based On Experience"---let's say ".32cpm to .40cpm to start DOE"
Well; if you have, say, 11 years experience...yet 8 jobs in that 11 years, the company might give you a chance with that horrible work history...but they are going to start you at the bottom of the scale to see if you are gonna stick around---this lightens their investment and cost on a driver that has a history of jumping ship.
The 11 years would EASILY put the driver at the top of the scale; but history dictates that they are not going to last, so why would the company not wanna keep costs as low as they can during a trial period.

Keep your CDL bro ...what would it hurt to have it in your back pocket?...yes i agree this industry has become a joke but who knows maybe it will change ....they want us to be hopeless but this is part of their tactics of degrading us , this job is more than driving the equipment, seeing the country, bein a super star truck drivin man with teqois rings, cowboy hats and all that hogwash ...THIS IS BUSINESS...and these companies are well informed,WE ARE NOT,especially the rookies oh boy how they are getting their way with them ,like i said they have their tactics for making you feel worthless, hopeless and under their spell ....there are ways to clean this mess up ,have our OWN tactics, for starters WE should just vote on which company to KILL ,that's right i said ,let's TERMINATE JUST ONE COMPANY,this will surely send a message to the ones that we have all the value and NOT THEM ,we can do this by refusing to work for just that one certain company ,so boys which one is the rottenest giants to kick in the shins first?

That's starting pay...... I was with one that had .43 & .48 per mile, but it was only if you drove a coffin sleeper and you ran strictly northeast, and the miles were crap... Which I mentioned in that post ... The companies that advertised super high pay per mile were also the ones who give the low mileage, and it helps that I mentioned they had a mileage bonus, which is not impossible to make with the runs my company has..... And yes, .37 is still higher than some places, it helps if you rest the rest of the post.
