Unfortunately it is not the place of the those who arrested him to take any information it sounds like. I imagine a rough outline will be presented before a judge and then it will be decided if he should be held over for trial or not. Not sure of how the process works totally.

I would have a good lawyer and have all records of the company subpoenaed that had to do with any deliveries to this building. Surely the company has some sort of filing system to keep up with records. I would assume it would even have any info about the broker also, otherwise how do they get paid. If the company owner is willing to work with you, that would be better. Perhaps someone can be hired to go through his paperwork and find the bills, etc, if he has no filing system in place.

Also the broker needs to have all his records subpoenaed dealing with this transaction. How would they know if they were going to be paid for the load, esp if the load delivery place was changed.

I guess you stated the person who was supposed to get the order was already there with a forklift and day laborors. There must be a papertrail leading to him somewhere.

The load came from Mexico? was it inspected on the US side then and then released through one of the inspecting places:? They usually put a new seal on the load if this is done and the BOL info seal number may not match unless they listed it.

I think we all like to be able to help with ideas to help this person if he is innocent. The police can railroad and a person not be the guilty party.

I've hauled quite a few sealed loads of produce. Hell, I loved it because all I had to do was keep the reefer tank full and make sure the unit wasn't malfunctioning. Any other causes for spoilage were the shipper's problem.

You turn the reefer off before you open the doors to prevent the reefer from blowing the cold air out the rear of the trailer. Then turn it back on if/when you dock at cold storage.

The trailer stays cool longer that way.

Once your in a door you do not need to run your unit.if it's a child dock it will keep your temp just fine.

I've been to a few places that asked you to keep the reefer on until you got your bills. Some asked you to turn it off before you hit the dock. Some don't care either way. *shrug* never found much rhyme or reason between them.

When you run your unit when backed in, your helping to supply the cooling to the dock, saving them money. When you shut your down they are keeping your trailer cool saving you money if your an owner. You should precool your trailer,I typically run mine at full cool for about 30 minutes prior to loading.

All this reefer talk has nothing to do with the thread or scenario of the OP's step fathers arrest.
It started out a simple question about his reefer not being running, which was answered long ago.

    Humm,

Everyone seems to be on a page of the driver / company was in on it.

    Not Me.

I have re-powered a few loads and had a few re-powered for me. Paper works is there, seal is there , we're golden.

I have picked up loads and been told head towards such and such a city, they're not sure what warehouse it's going to yet. Call when you get close. Odd yes, but it happened more than once.

I've also had a destination changed from the original location to a different one in route. Then instructed to call this # when you're close and we'll send someone to open up and unload you. PITA, yes but I never questioned it. ( my only thoughts were dumb people)

I've also done too many tail gate deliveries to even count.

I can see how this all looks bad for the driver and the company but I can also see how all of this can ( and probably does ) happen.

Does anyone really believe that these drug smugglers are going to risk losing a shipment on a non tried and true method.

What is a shame is that this driver is sitting in a cell when all the real facts could be checked out in a matter of hours and he could be back home.
