I ran an end dump for a month in May of 2012, along with 3 other trucks. We were told we would be overwhelmed with work and that we would have brokers begging us to work for them. As much work as we could possibly handle 24/7.
On our first day, we sat at the Love's in Three Rivers. No dispatch. On the second day, ran 4 hrs and truck barely made $250. It was hot and cold for the remainder of the month. Only 1 day did the truck make $1000. The rest were $600-$700 days, but we never worked a full week.
Dispatch was on a day to day basis. Once we even got dispatched, showed up to the pit/quarry, and they were closed.
The broker painted a pretty picture, and in reality it was far from it.
Things may have changed by now so don't take my experience as current conditions. I now haul Tanker and often pass through there on my way to Corpus area. And one thing is certain, I see a constant revolving door of trucks from different parts of the country. As a matter of fact, passed through todayBig Duker and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -
Papa Tom is right on. Dumps are a dime a dozen. If you are illegal and speak good Spanglish your chances will go up. Of course you won't make schidt. But you will have the opportunity to sit in the nasty Three Rivers Loves with several hundred others-most who don't have any shower credits. If you are already working S TX look out for these rock buckets. Terrible drivers. Think nothing of pulling right out in front of truck going 70 on 2 lane highway w/no shoulder. That's the way they teach them to drive in Mexico.
PapaTom Thanks this. -
Doesnt sound fun at all

I'm interested in hearing anything from drivers who have worked around Eagle Ford. I've been talking with some companies who are looking for bottom dump owner operators hauling gravel and rock for well pads and roads for construction crews.

I hauled Caliche (base/gravel) to the well pads and access roads. However, as I mentioned above, it was for 1 month in 2012. It was a 3 month commitment but I wasn't going to put up with false promises any longer, so I found a back haul to CA and high tailed it out of there. Things may be different now. I do wonder though.....there's always a huge need. Which only leads one to wonder why they can't seem to fulfill those needs. There must be a reason why there's a revolving door with so many trucks coming into the area, with just as many leaving.
It would be nice to hear from some drivers who've worked there recently as times may have changed
