There are companies where a recent grad can make $45-$52 k a year...I work for one. It really depends on how hard you run and how you develop your relationship with your dispatcher. I have been driving for 8 months, my base pay is .37 cpm and I can reach bonuses by hitting 2000, 2500, and 3000 miles per week. This isn't what you average but a weekly talley to hit your bonus. For each level your bonus is for all miles, not just what you go over the goal. 2000 miles gets a .03 cpm bonus for all miles that week, 2500 miles will add another .01 cpm for a total of .04 cpm for all miles, and 2500 will get another .01 cpm for a total of .05 cpm for all miles that week.
So if I run 1900 miles this week, it pays at .37 cpm, next week I hit 3100 then it pays at .42 cpm, and the last week I hit 2600 then it would pay .41 cpm. If I run 2500 miles a week I make $1000 a week. That's 52k a year and it is not unreasonable to reach.
The jobs are out there, do your research and read what you can about those companies and call the recruiters. The one thing you won't find is someone leading you by the hand to the promised land.

I would feel a lot saver in a big truck driving the highways of America than driving in a straight truck up and down the north/east extension or up and down the Schurkill" expressway any time. Been there done that Bro! your next to a state that has the worst drivers in the US...NJ in fact the whole tri state area you could lose your life at any moment anytime of the day. I grew up in Pottstown and drove up and down 422 for 20+ years and I cant tell you how many wrecks I avoided. Good luck!
Dinomite Thanks this. -
By all means sir forgive me for my ignorance and lack of math skills. So not sure if you are meaning class B jobs or class C jobs. Then I'm not sure if you are saying you can work each one so many hours that add up to 16 or 2 16 hr shifts and still be home every night and weekends off. Dude really. What class b job is paying 15 an hour, and If there is one. After your day of hauling bottles of wine, coke, or beer is over with. You are going to be off to dream land and dread the fact you have to get up and do it all over again the next day.
I'm just saying why do you even bother putting Otr and regional in your thread if all you want to do is drive a straight truck in the city limits. Just go to work for the produce and meat companies that deliver to the stores. You can do a google search just like everybody else my friend.
By the way back when I started they let you hustle and bustle. Now you have e logs and you sit and wait until somebody in the office decides to give you a load. That's if you ever decide to actually use your license to drive something with more then 6 wheels or 3 axles's

I started with TMC with no experiance in sept 2012 put in my year then got a local job. Which is easy where I live in NJ. I would recommend TMC to anyone with a work ethic. In the year I worked for them there was only 3 weeks that I didn't gross at least $1000.00 with my best being $2200.00. Percentage is definatley better than milage. If I ever have to go back on the road I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I've met a good number of TMC drivers, I know they do a lot of work in my area (NE Ohio, Steel country) and most of them I meet, are pretty happy fellas.

If you are seriously looking for your best long term starting place, I would have to recommend Schneider's Tank division. You need to remember you are a rookie and will not start at the top of the pay scale, and you need a company that understands that too. But the education they are paying you to get will be priceless down the road. The great pumpkin rents 7 spots at our tank wash, and I have personally had face to face conversations with two of their drivers, and one has been there for 3 years "waiting for something better to come along" the other will have been there 5 years this March, he is also waiting for something better to come along. If you don't think you can handle the tanking world, Melton is a fairly top shelf flat bed company cut your teeth on.

I have just found the highest paying company in the industry. They are either wanting to give the job to me or a newbie. Well, I say let the newbie have it. I don't need to support my ex wife, and other ex wife and Kid and kid and kid and step kid and current wife and dog and house payment and car payment and retirement fund and Obama Care.
You need to call C. R. England and talk to them. It is a sacrifice but I know how important money is to you youngstes. As the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:19 A feast is made for laughter, wine makes life merry, and money is the answer for everything.Moving Forward and KnoxFox23 Thank this.
