Do you mind other drivers idling next you at the truck stop

yeah,i love reading what all you hotshotters have done at whatever age here on TRF. it is almost as good as hearing about it on the radio.Thanks for sharing it all w/us here on the forum.In a couple years and with the just right mega-fleet,you may qualify as a trainer.

best of luck there putting all that experience to good use.just seems like a waste to be hotshotting with all that under your belt while raging about an inconsiderate APU on here-

 

I will never, ever, work for a fleet company. Funny you're ragging on a kid running his own company, going after the american dream...you sound like the scrubs sitting behind their desk in Washington. I can back up everything I've said and it's obvious you know nothing about the heavy haul business...all that stuff shuts down in the winter big guy.

 

If he wants to work harder for a better paycheck what's it to you? Like any of the specialty side of this industry (heavy haul, OD, tanker etc..) running hotshot is harder, but pays better.
He lives in a smaller space, has inferior equipment that wasn't designed as well (I.e. brakes, power etc..) all that well loading out a truck at full truck rates with just 15k of cargo space. ..

Sure he could go slam van doors and take the easy way, but some people want a challenge and a bigger paycheck, that's why many veterans make the switch.



As to his original post I'm thinking he meant reefer not APU, I've never heard a APU that was very loud.

 

I pull reefer too so I don't notice. The only time it bothers me is when they are burning rich and I can smell the exhaust or the "cool" guys with the straight stacks that have to let everybody know that they are there by revving their engine all the time.

 

Laughing whatever acronyms there are!!!!!!!! I may not know a troll from a mole but I know idling, noise, smell (we left the poor bull haulers out of the complaint list) and interrupted sleep at weird times just go with the turf. Either deal or rent a motel room. Way it's always been; way it'll always be. Prince/ Princess sleep is at home or in a room. Not a truck stop for sure. STILL laughing . . .

 

That's why I don't mind a bit if somebody pulls in next to me they have way more to complain about than I do lol. I was at big country in Merkel Texas Saturday I think, had a couple broadcasting what they would do if a certain trailer wasn't relocated out of the parking lot. I tried to be considerate and park on the edge of the lot that the wind blew the smell away from everyone. Wasn't no big thing after I suggested be glad to move to the other side and let the wind blow it across the whole lot

 

When he posted on the public forum,i inserted my opinion which sums up what,or what it is not,to me.I understand the better paycheck derived from the specialty side as i am in a specialized field of transportation,and it is certainly more difficult than tankers or slamming doors,probably even OD, but that is neither here nor there. the decrepid and overweight are not in the side of trucking that i enjoy.I may even qualify as a veteran driver dependent upon one's perspective.

I do not,however, grasp how hotshotting is any more difficult than any other form of trucking,some question if it is trucking albeit is specialized to an extent , but that too is all in one's perpsective.It takes all kinds of different variations to make transportation click.

If the young hotshotter can appreciate you coming to his aid,then i can as well.I'll thank your post and up your number.

My style is a bit harsh at times but i thrive on the same in return. i am seasoned after all and a legend among my cronies.

first time back in 93' during Somalia; being the young soldier i was and since the mountain patch was way cooler that the stewart patch i chose to wear it...so, karma had me assigned to Fort Drum in 2005 where I would deploy to Iraq three times and finish out my career. Fort Drum wasn't so bad and eventually grew to like it, but it was 2500 miles from home...I was in 2nd BDE Support Battalion, Trans/Fuel/Medics/Cooks section. Still have some great friends up that way...Polar Bears are crazier than me....
