Just finished reading this thread end to end (over the course of a few days as time allowed) and I feel like I know you all...lol. What a great group you all are. :yes2557:

Obviously, thank you all for your time and effort in allowing me ( and all of us) to learn so much before even having applied. I have read through threads from some other companies here and this one was by far the most enjoyable to read. I have a while to go before I will have to make any decision but I am getting prepared now. No sense in cramming at the last moment, then rush the decision. Trans Am looks good for what I hope to get out of my first year. Thanks to all of you, leasing at Trans Am to begin my trucking career will never happen. MANY THANKS for laying it out so plainly! :biggrin_25514:

Not really many questions at the moment. I will be driving out of Austin, Texas, and can see there isn't much call for the typical load from Trans Am to go to Laredo, but am certain HT is doable, no problem. Had a neighbor that worked for Trans Am (didn't know him). After reading here I am sure he was company and I did notice he got home 2 weeks out - 2 days home....etc...etc. The Drive Cam would bug me to no end, but I see that some of you who were the most adamant about not having it have adjusted. Good enough for me not to worry about it at this stage.

I just don't want to go to 1900 Pierce St, Detroit!!!...lol.

Hometime Queen, loved all of your posts. You said you would call shippers for King? Maybe call for all the good drivers here since they "can't" call themselves?? Just kidding.

I did notice a lease driver did not get reimbursed on a trailer fix and that was disconcerting (post 3478 - honeybadger). I would be company, but that is still an indicator of an attitude the company must have towards drivers. Thing is, a lease driver isn't leasing the trailer anyway. Still, as a rook, I will expect to pull a hen toothless to get things conveniently left off of paychecks.

No biggie. Good and bad, first year. Then on to better things is the plan. Trans Am should pay you all commission for laying it out there in a realistic way, yet still not driving folks to other carriers.

I hope to post more here in this thread in the future as questions come to mind. Thanks again!!!!!

Road_Kill, I have noticed you on the thread and assumed that you were reading. I know a couple of things about you already. 1.You are determined to learn as much as you can in order to make an informed decision and learn the most that you can in order to deal with the issues you will run across as a driver. 2. You are not lazy! You have not only read the last year's worth of posts but the whole thread! ....Excellent! You are what we need in this industry. Informed drivers that continue to learn ....you will do well!

Actually I have looked up information for other drivers every once in awhile! :yes2557: :biggrin_2559: Since you have read the thread you know that several of us are no longer with TransAm ....but because we all went through the same preschool (TransAm) we have formed what I hope are lasting friendships as we continue our education! We are happy to have you join us.

There are so many misconceptions about truck drivers and many misconceptions by new drivers breaking into the industry. One of the first things that you will realize is that you are on your own and without a little help there are many things that you will have to learn the hard way. I think that is what we have tried to do here, become the equalizer, because the deck is stacked in so many ways against the driver that is new.

Thank you for taking the time to understand and appreciate that we are trying to help one another!

We are a bunch of characters, that's for sure! Well, the rest of them are anyway .....I'm the only sane one of the bunch ....and that's because I am not a driver!:biggrin_2559:

Speaking of characters and books ....have any of you met the truck stop chaplain at the TA in Foristell, MO.? He has written a book titled "The Truck Stop: A Chaplain's Story" He sounds like a truly lovely man and a friend to the drivers. There is a write up about him in our little electric coop magazine this month.

It is in the current issue on pages 8 and 9.
