We can cry about brokers all day long and I hate to beat a dead horse but here I go.

Called on a load, broker asks what you need to move it, I said $950, his reply was " I have 15 loads and guys already started grabbing em at $650 per load, I would negotiate the load with you but Im confident guys will keep on taking em at $650".

This isnt the first time a broker has told me, guys are snatching em up at less than what youre asking for, I can move on the rate but no one else is asking for more money so youre last on the list. Doesnt bother me to much, I wont hold my breath and keep looking. My point is, alot of times were quick to point the finger and wont take responsibility for these rates being offered.

Were our own worse enemies gentlemen.

You've finally figured out the real problem, haven't you. It's one of the reasons I rarely tell someone to get their own authority without experience running percentage. Deregulation was not a good thing for our industry.

How would that affect the rates they can get?

Being tactful in negotiation, being patient and steadfast on knowing lane rates as well as your costs; it's a lot like fishing. If you pick the right line, bait, and are quiet; that fish might bite.

If he won't. Go find another hole, that one is done.

Your right, though. There are just way too many goobers out here that will not learn how to bargain. That broker sure as heck knows the rate is flexible, so why don't the goobers realize it?

Makes a guy want to sell it all and go fishing for a living.

Likely been like this since the days of freight wagons in the old west , there is ALWAYS SOMEONE willing to haul freight for the price its listed at good or bad and will not negotiate for $0.01 more

    281ric Thanks this.

    This is "old fashioned" competition.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Like buying a car, I have watched friends walk onto some dealers lot and on a spur of the moment decision buy a car without even thinking of trying to negotiate the price because they "gotta have it".

Seems like they are hurting for flatbeds. I'm getting calls out of the blue for loads that are halfway across the country!
