Hey guys, I've been driving for almost a year now and have a question. I haul a CO2 tanker and am home every night - so I usually don't have a reason to park at a truck stop or rest area. Most days I take my 30 minute break at the home terminal or at the customer, but tonight I found myself having to park at a truck stop where I found a few open pull-through spots.

I ended up leaving an empty spot between me and the next guy. I tried for the adjacent spot, but there wasn't enough room to cut wide enough so my trailer would be straight.

I didn't get cussed out on the CB, but I worried that I might have broken one of those unwritten rules out here. I try to be a conscientious driver.

So did I pull a jerk move or is it kosher to leave a space?

Doesn't matter if you are between the lines and not too far forward or back.

I prefer to take the spots along the edge or are back-in only ... this keeps those easy pull through spots open for the double trailer drivers, say fedex or ups or conway - that style. Also the easiest pull through spots are where the first rookie will wheel it in and may hit you ... just easier to avoid any crap all together ...

Maybe I have a different view, in Canada we have lots of super-B trucks at the truck stops, they have it hard enough, might as well let them have the pull throughs ...

Can't see how this would be an issue.
It's up to the next driver who wants the open spot to set up for it or find another park.

If you done the best you could to insure that another truck could get in the left space I would say you are fine. It doesn't bother me to have to back in or jockey for position, its the business I am in. There was a time when most had a cb on and if a driver needed a spot all you would have to do is communicate you are local and just on break its no problem to move up to driveway for a few minutes. When you could communicate with others the rules were easier learned IMO. At least you care enough to ask which is way more than most.

Just because I don't see a problem doesn't mean some one won't. There are many who think reverse and mirrors are not to be used.

And I thought R was for Race... #### it.

Seriously though during the day I don't think it really matters, usually there's several pull through spots available although like gokiddogo said the more easily a spot is accessed the more likely a rookie (or ######) is to use it and more likely to get hit you are. I myself usually look toward the party row for parking since those same people tend to be lazy and not want to walk ALL the way to store. It's also good to get some exercise

If there's open pull through room, I usually use it to set up for a straight back into a back in only spot in the party row, the only issue here is you have to let the guys participating in the truck stop 500 get around you, leave the pull throughs for the rookies and the trains, unless it's getting late and the truck stop is filling up, since I usually drive nights when my co is on the truck, if the fuel islands aren't busy, I just park in the end island and let the drivers jockeying for spots for the night have the open spots...only got yelled at once for this by another driver who was fueling in a different island, just told him to piss off and mind his own

Taking a middle spot of three available is bush.

You are still less bush than the : fuel island next to cat scale non oversize or park by exit guy.

You know its kinda bush by your wording in your post. So whatever you're fine.

Lights off and no high range plz in the ts.
