Hi everyone I been offered 2 jobs from different industry's in oilfield. First company is hauling crude oil pay is based on distance and per barrel, second is hauling frac sand starting at 19.00 per HR. Both have same schedule 4/2 rotating schedule. What are the pros/cons on getting paid per HR as apprised to per barrel with crude?

if you have to wait at a location paid by the hour for a reason or another , you are still getting paid.
if you have only a couple loads but long distance to drive its worth it, if little load short distance , not so much.

I think its easier to get a steady paycheck by the hours.

You need to see if you can find out what their average load length is, if the pay is per barrel/mile. Also I would see if I could find a driver to talk to, the company recruiter may give you the number of a driver that wouldn't mind answering questions.

My husband says the drivers he has talked to say that the per barrel/mile usually averages out to about $20 an hr. Worth seeing if you can find someone to talk to. Cause that's pretty close really. He actually said he'd do it, but doesn't really want to deal with hazmat.

Will the hourly pay overtime? Would you be working enough to max out the hours?

Maybe estimate what you would make with overtime and see how many miles you would need with the other job.

Research the reputations of both companies?

Ok thanks for replys so far, I don't know if were allowed to put namers of companies on this forum though. The recruiter from crude oil CO says there drivers usually make 300 dollars a day or 1200-1500 a week.
