I drive over 10,000 miles per month, follow all of the rules. Do the super slow 45 MPH through construction zones where there are no workers and all the lanes are still open, drive the super slow liberal 55 MPH from Indianapolis to Milwaukee, keep my six second distance, etc. Try to be 100% perfect 100% of the time, but then I come across a country highway with no passing lanes, and someone is doing 30 MPH in a 55, so I patiently wait behind them for 30+ minutes, then I finally see an opening, I speed up and take it to go around, but then another driver will call me into safety to complain that I am such a dangerous driver for going around someone. Then safety will ##### and try to punish me. It is impossible to be 100% perfect all of the time. I do see some old truckers out there who are 100% perfect who make $300 per week driving though. Im gonna go back into my programming career where I made $90,000+ and you could be human and make mistakes.
The worst thing about trucking IMO

Shoot I don't blame you. I have a MSCS and couldn't come near half of $90+k. That's why I'm looking into trucking.
-
So you left a $90k/year job to become a truck driver?
bigtssa Thanks this. -
Yes. I wanted to see the country (mission accomplished) and take a break from nonstop coding every single day. Answering extremely difficult questions from clients every 10 minutes wears you out. There is a reason why they pay you more in that job.SheepDog Thanks this.

The worst thing about trucking is all these 2nd and 3rd career people who want trucking to be like their old job. Its NOT YOUR OLD JOB. Its trucking. If you don't like it. Don't let the door hit your whiny tail on the way out. Now back to the regular scheduled program. WHAT YA HAULLIN GOOD BUDDY!!
blairandgretchen, D.Tibbitt, slim shady and 5 others Thank this. -

Um I am not comparing trucking to my old job. It is just amazing that I try my best to follow the rules but when I need to go around someone and they get scared that my tires threw some rain on their windshield they cry. Or jealous truckers who make minimum wage who snitch on everyone who weighs less than 400 pounds.

OK Nash, so got a good reaming out about something. So what? You're a big boy, and from what I've read in your posts, I thought you liked the business. Perhaps you are trying to put too much pressure on yourself to be perfect. Here is a news flash: YOU AIN'T!
(any more than any of us are. . .)
Take a few deep breaths and realize that tomorrow is another day. There was a reason you left your old job, and it had to do with a whole lot more than a desire to "see the country." So think long and hard before you make up your mind.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
TruckDuo, Hitman, Moving Forward and 7 others Thank this. -

And all along I thought the worst thing about trucking was a lot lizard banging on your door at 2am, or the smell of fresh urine in the air at a truck stop, or finding no place to park when you're dead dog tired, or HOS, or dispatchers, or DOT, or shippers/receivers, or city traffic...etc.
TheDreamer, Drifter42, Marksteven and 1 other person Thank this.
