I've completed the SCAC and FAST applications. I tried calling OOIDA for some insight but they transferred me to three different people and it seemed like I knew more on the subject than them. They did say that Ontario requires the COVR and Quebec requires an Inspector's General #.

So, I need to wait for my SCAC code to apply for PARS/PAPS? For the ACE/E-Manifest do I need my SCAC code?

Thanks again, hopefully all this is worth it haha.

edit...Also, for those that haul to Canada, is it worth it to just register all 10 provinces like registering for all states in the US. I have no clue where I might go but so far in my experiences it's likely you'll end up anywhere at some point.

Quebec authority is like $250 a year. Pricey if you don't use it often and are a one truck show.

I would direct you to the permit company that did all the setup for me ... 730 permits. google them, they can answer all your questions better.

Well sitting around in the truck stop today I think I got myself all squared away.

    $50 for FAST.
    $60 for SCAC.
    $160 for 50 of each PARS/PAPS labels.
    $350 for ACI e-Manifest account.
For the ACE e-Manifest it's $100 one time setup with a $75 annual renewal fee and $50 per trip. Or they have a plan B which is $150 for at least 6 crossings per month. Not sure what kind of business we'll find up there at this point so going for plan A I guess.

I'm doing the e-Manifest accounts through Green Light Services, do these prices seem accurate?

I called the Canadian customs information center and they told me that the PARS number is good for all provinces.

It's going to take time to get your ACI account setup. Not sure on those "renewal" prices for ACE or ACI ... I have never had to pay them. Just have to keep your SCAC code (for your PAPS stickers) that is a renewal thing, every June I think, maybe $60 or $70 per year. PAPS and PARS stickers you should get 1,000 for that price. There are many websites you can order from, just google it. As for having someone to setup your customs documents to get your ACE/ACI into the appropriate systems, you will need an agent for this. I have a company that does it for $7 per shipment and each additional shipment on same truck is another $1. No monthly minimums.

Something else to consider, is if you would be one of the many, many Americans that get turned around at the border for something stupid ... you don't want to do all of this then be stuck at a border crossing where they won't let you in. I don't know how you can check that without actually trying ...

    RWK Hauling Thanks this.

Just called your company and you're right, $79 per roll...this green light company is robbing people. The e-manifest stuff is a lot cheaper too, the only nice thing this green light company has going is you can submit an order for labels and the manifest accounts before you receive your SCAC/PARS numbers and they will update it when they are active.

    Thanks for the help.

Just so you know and you will find this out when you have your fast interview is that the fast card will be a good thing to have when you reenter into the country, some points in canada won't use it but US customs will all the time to verify you. You can't use it for the load or go into the fast lane at the crossing, the load has to be a fast load and they frown on the use of fast lanes in some places without a fast load.

Fast card can be used at any point crossing into Canada or the USA... Also for fast loads the carrier has to be fast certified ...

The problem is less when you are coming to Canada, but more when returning to the USA. Must have valid passport OR fast card. Passport is your safest bet, though.

Thanks for the info on the FAST card. It says my application is still awaiting review on the GOES site.

I think I'm all set for Canada. I got my temporary registration today from NY with the added jurisdictions. I'm still stuck here in TX with more Canada loads popping up. We had a good one going to Montreal today so I called 730 permits to ask when everything would be ready. They told me that once I receive my SCAC code and Canadian carrier code I'm good to go. She said I have 30 days to get the labels and can go through customs without them until then. She told me it would take them about 30 minutes to get the manifests all set. Unfortunately they wanted a team truck and needed the load up there in two days after pickup tomorrow at 4pm so that fell through.
