Hey everyone, I know theres a lot of posts regarding the General lee but I thought I red somewhere that its illegal? and you need to have it converted to an 11 meter? I don't know much about it but I orderd it from BigMouthscbs. Is this all true? Any information will be helpful!

    thanks!

I got to tell you that you could have spent less money on a better radio like a cobra and get it tuned up with a good antenna system to boot.

While I'm not a fan of export radios (aka 10 meter radios with channel selectors), I think I should go into business ordering them from China with my own brand, tuning them and then selling them on the internet because people just don't get that a cobra is just as good as one that you spend all kinds of money on.

    Thanks for the reply,

and yeah I got myself a big cobra 29 peaked and tuned aligned, talkback, echo(don't use it) with blue led and all that good stuff. I can put out good, everyone says its a loud radio, but I liked the look of the Lee. Maybe ill put the lee in the car or something haha
    thanks man

I'm looking for a new cb to put in the truck. 2010 volvo pulling a tank. Hard to beat the Cobra 29 with bigger finals, peak and tune. Any input on the new 29? The one with different color displays + weather channel. I think its the 29 LX LCD.

General Lee's are illegal...And they do have to be converted for 11 meter. (which is the main thing that makes them illegal)

But they have about the best audio of any of the so-called "Export" radios.

More than likely the shop you bought the radio from has already done the conversion to 11 meter for you before it was shipped...(most will)

As for the New Cobra 29's (LX) I have one of those, and it's older brother the LXLE, and get nothing but good reports with them...I'm not a big fan of having the 29's peaked & tweeked to make them swing more than 20-30w's or better, I try to keep them as clean as possible, then stick a Amp in-line behind it...About the only mod's I have had done to my 29's was I had a variable power knob installed where the Delta Tone was at, and I did the Talk-Back mod to them so the TB would be louder...Other than that, there's not much else that needs to be done to one, other than run whatever Amp you like behind it...

Back to the General Lee, I doubt your going to be disappointed, the General Lee's have been around for years, and I have yet to ever see a bad post on the Lee's...

About the only thing that has changed on the Lee's since it first came out, is they don't use the 1969 finals anymore, and use Mosfets, but any radio you buy just about now days are going to have Mosfets...Just the way it is.

Only complaint I have with the he 29 lx is that the knobs were really cheap feeling, but why spend all of the money to have some one to boost up a 29 or buy an amp when you can take the money and buy a radio that already has the power?

Grumppy and wore out Thank this.

I agree on the 29lx's knobs...least the "ON-OFF" knob...Think Cobra could have came up with a better design.
