I've heard this. Mine does not seem to have this feature turned on or whatever. There may be a particular way to go in to a receiver. You go that way, all the while the device trying to get you to go another way, then when you leave you will run the same route, yet the garmin 760 will still try and route you the way it wanted to route you in except in reverse. ignoring whatever you may have done to get in there in the first place, thinking you're an idiot and just got lucky.

I have tried to locate custom route but I can't find that either. I searched but no luck.

Yes you have to update it, hook it up, mine took about 2 hours to get all the updates. Gave it to my son, like the other poster said, he has to put in way points and fuel stops to get it to match. He only use it when hes with in 100 miles or so. running coast to coast not much point, but when your approaching main, or Boston, Chicago it becomes real valuable real fast.

I will use my trusty atlas that has never failed me until I speak to someone at Rand McNally. I agree GPS is most valuable as you get close to you're destination. I am not electronically literate. I did hook up my device to the computer but have no idea what it did when I hit update.
