    I'm paid a percentage.

I get a percentage of the tarp pay but not all of it. I don't ##### about it because quite often my percentage pay far exceeds what a lot of guys wish they made. Its part of the deal and you have to take the good with the bad. If you set yourself up with the right company the good far exceeds the bad.

Also. Although so tarp jobs take longer then others. I have only once taken 4 hours to tarp a load. And it was 2 valve. That were 10' tall 3' long and 3' wide. And had about 9000 angles and points on the load. Don't let people scare you out of a little work like tarping etc. Trust me when all you do is drive 2050 miles and unload. You'll want to do something. Such as tarping

not sure why it's thought that i'm whining or whatever about tarping, just asking what i thought was a valid question since i know nothing about hauling a flatbed. Believe me, i'm not afraid of work!

Boyd pays for tarping although not as much as some of the others. Their tarp pay is $20. Most of the loads my bf has trapped haven't taken more than an hr.

My worse one was the cheese making machine last year, it took every bit of 5hrs to fully pad and cover it. 7 tarps IIRC. 12' wide, 14' tall, 38' long, with valves, motors, and God knows what else sticking out everywhere.
A "normal" tarp job is @1-2hrs work though, which isn't bad for $3-400 we get to do it in my book.
I have always said, tarping costs me nothing if the truck isn't running.

We were not referring to you. You will figure out the guys that are negative and cry about everything they have to do in this business after you've been around here for awhile.

Edit: Looks like I walked on Cluck with my reply.

Non of it was aimed in your direction mate. So fear not.
Point is, dont be like some, and whine and moan about having to tarp, when you pull an open trailer. It IS part of the job, just like figuring out how to secure a load safely and legally. There is more to know and learn, but it is the only type of trucking I have done for @22yrs now, and obviously wouldn't change it.
Some days (maybe a few minutes of the day) I wish I was able to swing doors and forget about it though, to be honest. Days when pulling oversize and having curfews, weather, daylight, and so on, to contend with. Then there are the "K Mart" loads, that have about 520 pieces to them, all different sizes and shapes....
If YOU are up to the challenge, welcome aboard. If others aren't up to it, go swing doors and put on about 50lbs in a year, and lower your standards accordingly....:biggrin_25523:
