Greetings from Central TX (Marble Falls TX)
I am 48 years old and looking for a new career. I don't have my CDL yet but I am studying for the test. I have my own HVAC business and I am tiered of crawling in attics and construction is way down in my area. The only big rig I ever drove was my Ford 4x4 F350 7.3L 4 door dully with a 41' fifth wheel toy hauler. lol I am hoping to get into the Oil fields driving tankers hauling water first then move up to oil or diesel. That's the plan. Looking for driving/training right now. Relocating to Abilene.
If the trucker that I talked to 4 years ago in the snow on the S. side of Abilene is on the forums, I will take the job now.
Great forum, lots of good info. Thanks

Welcome from another noob and fellow Central Texan! I'm in Austin (620 & 183 area). LOVE Marble Falls. The Bluebonnet Restaurant is awesome. Is it still there?? I used to live in Granite Shoals. GREAT part of Texas if anybody asks me.

I'm doing what you are, only I have some CDL school "fundraising" to do first. Welcome. I would like to hear how your journey goes. Btw, we are only two years apart, unfortunately I'm two years riper, but I like seeing folks my age going for the trucking industry as I am. Best of luck to you!

There is 99,9 % chance that you will get rejected from everybody. That the simple and ugly truth. Do not trust what CDL school staff tells you. They're telling what you wanna hear. Everybody is requesting a minimum of 1 year OTR experience in order to haul tanker. Usually thats with no accidents and no tickets and clear driving record in last 3 years (if not five years). Smaller companies cant simply afford insurance for rookies.

Anyways, no matter where you try, I seriously doubt somebody will hire you without experience. I've heard of some cases of newbies getting a job hauling fuel but it one in a 1.000 chance. To be honest, I wish you luck Sir. If I couldn't find it, I hope you will.
    Best of luck.

    P.S. Sorry for typos...

Try this thread: Oilfield Trucking Forum

A few drivers went to tankers in the oil fields right out of CDL school. They were discussing it on the oilfield thread.

Here's some tanker company that hire new CDL grads, but they're not oil field jobs. Good training though for your next step to the oil fields.

Doesn't Nabors or Halliburton offer an on the job training program. I don't mind spending a year or so in the trenches. Work is slow for me right now so I am willing to try just about anything. I will drive whatever I can to get started, but I would like to end up driving a tanker.
The Blue Bonnet is still here, but you will be in line for a long time before you get seated. I lived in Austin back in the late 80s' and early 90's. I worked in a club called New West off of Mopac and Aderson Ln.
Thanks for the company names. I am making a list of everyone I can find.

Very familiar with New West. I worked at the spot myself when the club was named Graffiti's. In fact, the worst working night of my life happened at that spot. We ran a special, free drinks all night long for everyone. Period. Free drinks AND it was advertised on KLBJ all week long. Needless to say, we got slammed!!!!....lol.

I spent 10 years of my life running bars. It was fun, but it is hard on a body.

Try makenzie tank lines in laporte, texas. They use to pay for schooling at san jacinto college and seat you with a trainer afterwards.
