I've never worked for TMC or Maverick but from what I hear, Melton pays best, maverick has good equipment and hometime and TMC offers the most flexible home time with good pay.

They are self insured. But that basically just means that anything under a million bucks they handle themselves, instead of going through an insurance company.

Exactly, so a camera won't reduce the cost of insurance at all.

How much does Melton run through or out of Ohio? I know they have a yard i think up in the north east part of the state.. Also, how is Meltons securement training? What I mean is I am new to driving, I want to make sure I get trained right to be safe & legal. I have common sense and have been around the metal and equipment industry most of my life but this is a different animal. I am not saying I know anything other then my ##### from a hole in the ground most days.

I've been up there a hand full of times. I'd say 5 or less for me. Never picked up or delivered in ohio.

for me, it seems like every other load brings me to Texas. I hate Texas.

You will get the basics on several types of loads. You'll get a pretty descriptive book with pictures and such. EVerything else is all common sense. You'll get a feel for how many straps and chains you can get away with after you do it a while. For instance, 40' pipe weighing 44k Melton wants you to put 2 straps within first and last 5 feet, then one every 5' of pipe. Thats 9 total....I may use 9, i may use less depending on the type of pipe....is it banded together? is it small or big diameter, etc. You just start getting a feel. Also as you get quicker, you won't mind throwing the extra that melton requires because it only takes an extra 5-10 minutes. I could get a whole straight pipe load secured and tight in less than 15 minutes even throwing all the extra they want. Never take shortcuts that would compromise your safety. There is nothing wrong with throwing a few extra straps to help hold the load a little better...

They can't/won't get me out of these #### snow storms. Every week I'm in an area that I have to shut down for heavy snow/ice. It's really getting old.
