Is it better to live close to your company terminal or its home office? or does it make any difference?

    It does have some benefits.
It's not a big deal in most cases though.

Hometime is based on company policy, so terminal location isn't that important. It may at times benefit you though, but I wouldn't base my decision on which company to work for on where the terminals are. Pay & benefits are more important.

Might be a dumb question but what benefit would you have for living close to one?

The only benefit I see is some place to park the rig during hometime, if you don't have space for it-where you call home or the company does not allow you to take the rig home.

I say it's beneficial to live close to a terminal. As an example, I worked for FFE with their main terminal in Lancaster, Tx. I was thru there quite often, and if I lived there, I would have been home much more, if even for the day or overnight. Plus, you leave the truck at the yard and go home. Truck is secure, it can be serviced if needed etc. You can pick-up log books BOL's etc. Check in with payroll, actually see your dispatcher face -face. One time I saw an available truck, much nicer than mine and asked for it. And bossman gave it to me. You can fuel, shower, get a wash also. Life is good !:naka:

What if they can't find you a load home.
You could get a load and drop it at the yard for someone else to take, then go home.

If you quit or worse got fired, you wouldn't have to worry about how to get home.
Truck Maintenance. if they needed to do a service or whatever else on the truck..maybe something that might take a day or so you could go home.
Some companies can/will give you another truck in those cases but not always, or maybe they just don't have any empty trucks that day.

More then likely this won't be your only company so I would suggest finding one close to home incase you quit and then you won't have the long boring uncomfortable bus ride back home.Companies pay your transportation which most uses Grayhound.
