I know every company is like the Army, on some days I was like "I love it here!!!! thinking of making a career." and other days I was like, "Stay away from the military. They will screw you over, work you long hours with little pay" With that being said I am coming back into trucking and think I have it narrowed down to PLT and Roehl. Have a few questions about Roehl
    1. Do their trucks have APUs
    2. What kind of transmitions do they have
    3. I live in mid/northern TN so will they have me home time as advertised for me? I read some of the negative reviews about their hometime and I think it has to do with where the person lives.

Hometime and APUs sort of pull me to PLT because one of their yards is here in Lebanon TN wich is only 30 minutes from me.

3.idk about where you live but if youre on a hometime fleet they'll get you home where I was at, even if you only had 1k miles for the previous weeks...

summary:meh...company imho, busy in the summer, slow in the winter, go local when you get the chance....

Don't know if this is the right spot but i start for Roehl March 10...I go to the Atlanta Georgia orientation and then get a truck March 13. Couple of questions.....has anyone here been to the Atlanta orientation?.....what all should i take with me when i go?(I did drive for another company but that company was trash,if you want the name i will say it and then you will agree)I have everything i need to drive over the road but i don't know what i should take with me and then pick up the rest when i get home. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    1. there are still some trucks with apu but mostly they are being phased out. 2. 10spd. 3. they are good with hometime, sometimes not perfect but they don't jerk you around on purpose, just the occasional freight issues in trucking. I run hard, stay out, and get plenty of miles. my first truck had an apu and i was running so much really didn't have much time to enjoy it.

Stopped at Gary terminal on Friday night with probably 50-75 trucks in the lot. In the last year I've seen more newer trucks. There were only a couple there older than 2012. So EPU on almost all of these newer trucks. Few of the new Kenworths have to idle (no APU or EPU) but very few of those.

I drive a 2011 Freightliner Cascadia with an APU. So we have them still. And I'm pretty sure they'll get you home. I haven't had any problems, but I live 2 and a half hours from the Gary terminal.

Fleet 0-5 years. My issued truck right out the gate was 1 year old. Very nice. APUs not a common item. Home time not a problem as of this date. Home on time 99% of the time. Special circumstance home time excellent. They don't just try, but get it done. Pay is average for a beginner driver like myself. I've researched this intensely. Forced dispatch during bad driving conditions: They trust your judgement. If you don't feel safe, they want you to shut down and let them know.

500...if true, holy cow, that's a major percentage of their fleet.

Just because it hasn't been said yet:
I'm on home time plus, so I tell them I wanna stay out for 18 days and I get 4 home. 11 gets 3, 25 gets 5, and so on. The longer you stay out the more you get at home. They also have 7/7 option and a few others. There are quite a few dedicated and regional fleets, not sure about what is in the tn area. I usually get home either on the day I wanted or the next day. Like someone said earlier, usually freight constraints are what may delay you getting home. I live in Maine, which makes it a bit more difficult, but like I said, usually on the day, or the day after I planned.
As far as I can tell, the negative reviews are from people who would get home one day late fairly regularly and would think that is awful.
Lastly, for the miles, I got just over 10000 in January, even after getting stuck at a TA for two days because of snow.
