So, I have heard tell of O/Os that broker their own loads. Is this a regular occurrence? How much does a load generally earn per mile if you do that? I've heard it can be in excess of $4.00 a mile. And I'm afraid to ask this question, but how much more work is this?
Thanks guys,
MS

You will see more 1.00 load than 4.00 loads your office must prove the broker will pay, when confo. is sent to office the $ must be same as you agree on, when they sign it you are locked in.

I agree with Baha. On average we get 2.50 per load. We run a refer so the expenses ate higher than with a flat bed and certain tyoes of loads pay better, such as ice cream and chicken. Plus, you have to factor in location. We know to charge higher going into Florida because the rate coming out is usually low.

Been finding some of my loads for quite awhile, dispatchers tend to have a lot of things going on,sometimes if u are looking at a load board u will see something before they do.Load boards are inexpensive, all I need is a computer and wi fi. some people use their phone. Lots of cheap loads

I think all three of you missed the point. I don't believe he was asking about operators who shop for their own loads, but small carriers who have their brokerage license and LITERALLY broker their own freight.

Wait AZtrucker171. There's a difference between the two?

Well, guess I was mistaken.
An O/O shopping for loads uses brokers, commonly through loadboards, to negotiate a rate for the service.
A carrier that has their own brokerage is serving customers (shippers) like any brokerage would, and can either farm the work out to contractors (as above) or put the freight on their own trucks.DrivingForceBehindYou Thanks this. -
i am very curious about brokering your own loads with your own broker license. anyone know if there is a specific website where only people with their license can see? Or how do brokers obtain their loads to then give them to carriers?

Yea I figured there would be a huge amount of phone calls. But would you (sly fox) know if there is actually a website where companies can put out there information on loads and have a licensed broker call them?
