Here's a first for me. Dispatch told me earlier that my load picked up tonight, so I fueled--only to discover at the last minute that I don't pick up until in the a.m. Had I known, I would of course not fueled until time to go and got a restart. I'm paper logging, rounding increments, and the fueling only took 5 minutes. I sure would like to claim that I fueled only, without pretrip, and thus must only flag it and not change to on-duty for a 5-minute task. I don't think I can pull it off, however! What do you think? Thanks.
Off duty fueling?

under 8 minutes is flag only no change in duty status right?
-
flag it as fuel on personal conveyance . or leave it off duty but flag it and note 5 minutes
-
fueling is always on duty

go for it. maybe the person who pays the bills not might tell the fuel people about it. unless there is post out back for executions i would not worry to much about it. be safe out there p.s. back in the old days trucking was harder but you didnt have all this new bs.

This is correct

On duty is on duty. There is no stipulation of one minute or 15 minutes before it kicks in. The minute you go on duty your 14 hour clock starts. How can you log 5 minutes fueling when you had to start the truck up, fill out your log and drive from the parking space to the pump and then back around and park it.Tonythetruckerdude, Northern Lights, rex0325 and 1 other person Thank this.

Just claim it on the next pretrip

If the OP is running paper logs I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you're gonna sleep in the same truckstop where you got fuel.

always know your plan so you can fuel accordingly.
regardless of what time your load picked up. you shouldn't have fueled. considering you aren't going anywhere.
i wouldn't have fueled up till i had to leave. OR, before i park.
