Do you want something "positive," or the truth? OK, here's some positive... you can't go wrong, lease a truck, and you'll be a millionaire in a month.
How's that? Feel better?
Do you want the truth? Most newbs who jump right into a lease out of training loose their financial butts. No one is saying don't lease... what we're saying is do what's necessary to prepare yourself so you'll have a much improved chance of success. The place to make dumb rookie mistakes (we all make them) and to get some experience and learn your craft is on the company side, where it won't involve tanking your financial future.

That's why I'm stating company for a good while to get money ahead so I can still feed myself during times if dry freight. ( little or no freight as opposed to non reefer freight)

Hi! My husband just retired from the Army after 22 years of service. He completed NTL driving school Jan 2014 and is being offered an orientation slot on 24 Feb in PA. Any info on orientation from this area? They said we wouldnt receive info until about 5 days before he goes so we are left kind of hanging. Not sure how long before he goes out on the truck? What happens when the trainer goes home? Will he get to come home? I am so nervous for him dealing with so many unknowns. He will be driving refridgerated on a NE regional route (allegedly) but they never have told us if miles are guaranteed or if they are short on miles? Can anyone shed some light? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

All that info is here. You just got to take the time to read it. The search function is a modern marvel!

Assuming a trainer is available, he'll be on the road the first Friday after arriving.
Depends... he can choose to go stay in his trainer's area for that time, or they can work out something to get him home. It could mean that he has a fairly long layoff depending on loads and getting his trainer back to pick him up. They do try to match up trainers and trainees from the same geographical part of the country, but that is hit or miss.
That's understandable. There is a ladies forum on TTR... you might want to start a thread over there for some support.
Depends on freight availability, his ability to get it moved, his fleet manager, weather, traffic, how the unloading near cutoff occurs... you will have skinny and fat weeks. That is what it is. Plan on a budget for home, and make sure you bank the fat checks as much as you can to make up for the ups 'n downs. There is a yearly cycle for refrigerated freight, so be aware of that.
Hope that helps.TNhellbilly Thanks this. -
I appreciate all the info thank you for being so throughough!

Question. Is the lease orientation different or separated from the regular orientation class or is everyone together? Coming to prime on the 3rd for lease in springfield
