I am on the outskirts of this ice storm so hopefully I will avoid the worst of it. I am concerned about the truck turning into an ice brick tonight. I don't look forward to spending an hour chipping ice off tomorrow. Is there anything I can put on the mirrors and glass to keep them from glazing over? Do I need to worry about ice accumulation on the top of the box in the morning? I've been idling 20 minutes out of each hour to keep the defroster on the windshield but I'm not sure what else to do.

honestly at this point of a storm.. I won't turn the truck off.. it takes forever to get them to heat back up at times.. and I just leave the defroster on and the heated mirrors on.. plus I am not going to freeze to death or get up every 40 minutes to start the truck to keep it thawed.. and I don't expect the guys driving for me to that either...x#1, biggare1980, Criminey Jade and 1 other person Thank this.

do you not have heated mirrors? when in a bind, cardboard works well to keep the ice off the windshield. screw the idle policy you are trying to adhere to.sometimes you have to do what you have to do.the ice storm is going to widen in area tonight around the metro area of atlanta and the second round is upon you as i type per the weather modules i have followed.somes areas will be getting up to an inch.
ice on top of the box can't be helped if you are unable to park under an awning or cover.up north they ticket but hopefully down here in the south it becomes a road hazard.i am sure you'll get a better reply than mine.road hazard = aligators, throwing rocks up even though you have legal mudflaps and etc.possibly covered under following you too closely if the ice does slide off upon melting.Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
PRECISELY why i urge her to forget about whatever lame company policy she is attempting to adhere to preventing her from idling.I'd idle to shheeeeit out of it considering the amount of ice that is being called for by the NOAA site and others.it is on the way if it isn't already falling.
catastrophic is the word being used by the weather service.Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
If no mirror heat ? Plastic shopping bags may be able to make slip covers. Depends on the mirror.

spray some paper towel with windshield washer -30 to -40 type stick it on the mirror, pull it off in the AM before you leave, windshield get a spray bottle use the same windshield washer and spray a lite spray but dont wipe it off.

I agree with the other posters, SCREW IDLE POLICIES! keep motor running and defrost on. No mirror heat? Buy a can of spray on ice remover . Don't worry about ice on top of box, how are you getting on top ? Just be safe, and if you don't feel safe driving? PARK IT !

I'm with you guys. I'm about ready to give up on the 20/60 thing. I'm trying to save fuel but... dang. Who came up with this weather nonsense? Isn't snow good enough?

I am parked. This place filled with trucks in the space of an hour after the sleet started. I'm keeping my spot.

running the truck all night just to keep the windshield clear, heck an hour or so in the AM will do that
SHO-TYME, double yellow and capthook Thank this.
