I know it depends on the company but....

What about unused vacation time? Do I just kiss it goodbye? I am talking with a company now. I just have a few things to get before I can be hired officially. So should I call my DM and tell him I want week after next off just to get my vaction money and come back and turn.in my two week notice? Or take my chances theyll pay me my vacation on my final check?

That what I thought. They've treated me good so far. I dont expect any issues when I quit but just wanted to be prepared just in case. I do expect a fight when I put in my notice. My fleet mgr of two years just got promoted to ops mgr over driver retention. Thatll be an interesting phone call. Lol

companies do not respect notices BUT they sure remember the guys who didn't give one. at some point in your career you may need someone to call your present company for a reference etc. give a notice and be respectful.
I have given notices and been asked to clean out my desk and leave 2 days later. no biggie. new job was already secure.

never stay at a job that gives in to your demands AFTER you give notice. Both parties will think it was a bad deal later. if you had to quit to get what you want they didn't respect you. if they feel you threatened them in their time of need to get what you want it won't be forgotten.

Best way I've seen to quit. get drunk and then at 2 or 3 in the morning send out a company wide email. telling off your boss and anyone else you can think of. question their business ethics and be sure to mention anything sketchy or questionable you have witnessed. Guarranteed you will have "quit" by 10 AM the next day. LOL

I've seen that one happen twice. it is hilarious watching the sender of the email beg people not to open it or pass it along as he has already called it back. never works.

I gave notice yesterday and they kept me rolling. I guess the bigger fleets are more pragmatic. They said may even consider rehiring me in the fall if I'm available again. I'm hoping we'll still be on good terms by the end.

I just took a load from the terminal out to a nearby state.

congrats. I would think as long as you work hard for the last two they will treat you right. don't run with a chip on your shoulder because, the "worst they can do is fire you" (not saying you are, or would but others do) and you'll be fine.
