Does this look like I can get a CDL with glasses?
"(b)(10) Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70° in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber;"
When I looked at the CDL book from Texas it just said I needed 20/40 vision and it scared the heck out of me. I see perfect with glasses but not without them. I don't know what Snellen means.

Snellen is the name of the eye chart that you read, you know that one with the big E at the top. Glasses are fine, they just want you to be able to see 20/40 with them.
-
Do most companies use the same eye chart?
-
As long as you can see WITH correction (glasses/contacts) you are fine. I can't see at all w/o my contacts, been driving professionally for 10 yrs now, never a problem with the 4 companies I've worked for. Just remember to keep a pair of backups or extra contacts with you OTR.

EXCELLENT ADVICE!

When I renewed my license last month, I was able to pass the eye test without the glasses. I would never try to drive without them.
The examiner advised me of what must be a new law, CDL holders with an eyeglass restriction must carry an extra pair. This is for regular and contact lenses. I have always carried separate sun glasses. -
First of all, THANKS CyberGal!!
. Now then, about the sun glasses. They are NOT created equal, you get what you pay for !$$$! Cheapo dark sunglasses just make it harder to see!!!! I paid over $100 for my Bolle brand with the driver lense. The CLARITY is AMAZING, and as long as you clean them with the correct cloth they last a LONG time!! They also correctly PROTECT your eyes, cheapo does not. Dark shades make your pupils open wider, letting in more bad rays. GOOD sunglasses should not darken things up, just clarify and reduce glare.

My sun glasses are prescription.
