Hey there! I am working on a project researching how truckers feel about the updated regulations to DOT physicals in May 2014. Any input you have would be helpful.

    1. Are you currently a truck driver, or planning to pursue this occupation in the future?

    2. If so, what size company do you work for?
      1. Independent- self employed
      2. Small Sized Company (1-10 drivers)
      3. Medium Sized Company (11-50 drivers)
      4. Large Sized Company (50 and above drivers)
    3. Have you in the past, or will you in the future, require a DOT physical exam for a Commercial Driver’s License?
    4. When searching for a DOT physical exam, what is most important to you?
      1. Price
      2. Location convenience
      3. Speed
      4. Leniency
      5. Thoroughness
      6. Reputation of Provider
      7. Expertise
    5. Based on all sources of recommendations for providers of the DOT physical, how likely are you to listen to each group of people:
      1. LIKERT Scale- Not Likely, Somewhat Likely, Very Likely, 1 2 3 4 5
      2. People- Supervisor, Employer, Friend, Coworker, Family Member, Internet Forums, Online Articles
    6. Does your employer cover the cost of the DOT physical?
      1. Yes
      2. No
    7. Does your employer mandate where you get the physical exam?
      1. Yes
        1. If Yes, Where?
      2. No
        1. If No, do they make any recommendations for providers?
      3. Please list any other sources that you use for information about the DOT physical:
    8. Where do you currently go for a DOT physical exam?
    9. What methods do you use to communicate with other truck drivers? Check all that apply:
      1. Internet Forums
      2. Truck Driver Radio
      3. Phone Applications (i.e. IPhone Apps)
      4. Associations or Professional Communities
      5. Other: ________
      6. Please elaborate on any methods that you checked, including names of forums/websites/etc: ______________
    10. Are you aware of the changes in DOT physicals beginning May 2014?
    11. If so, please explain what you know about the changes: __________________
    12. Do you have any comments or concerns about these new regulations? _______

Drivers are either going to like all the changes or find another line of work, simple as that. This industry is full of changes and there is nothing we can do about it,FMCSA has never listen and took the advice of any drivers far as I know.To this day ppl are fighting the laws only to get shot down every time.I think a lot of the regs suck but most of us know its all about revenue and creating jobs and making big bucks for everyone but the trk driver.Thousands of companies and Owner Operators have went out of business due to all the laws and the cost. Not sure if I know exactly what changes to the physical will be made in 2014 and frankly don't care because whats done is done.So either learn to like it or get out of trk driving.

    What changes ?

The last big thing was it had to be registered with the state in order to have your CDL

....I know doctors will be held to a higher standard here shortly

    What else is there ?

First off, there are no changes being made to the physical. It is the same as it has always been.

The changes in May are for the Medical Examiners to meet requirements. Has nothing to do with the driver except for using certified examiners.

    Just a wasted thread.

I agree with the others. Whatever answers we give you isn't going to matter to anyone but you. The government could care less what we think.

As as a company driver I go to the doctor the company picks or is contracted to at any particular time so here again, my answers, informed opinions, gripes won't mean anything to anyone.

Bottom line with with the physical is either you pass it or you don't.

That has been going on for years. The thread deals with the changes in May which have nothing more than restrictions on the examiners.

I agree with you, it is beyond the driver control and just deal with it.

Questions lead me to believe this survey is leaning towards someone looking to set up DOT clinics in and around truckstops.
