It's not a bad choice. Just remember you have to be your biggest advocate if you want to succeed.

US Xpress has a terminal in Olive Branch, MS

For me their test was in three parts. First one was to see if I could last 8 days in a motel while my truck was being fixed. I pass that test but, was not to happy. My 2nd test was to see how long I could last waiting on the phone for someone in breakdown to pick up the phone while sitting on the interstate seven feet from cars and trucks going by at 70 mph. 2 1/2 hours later they answer their phone and say ok good job you pass the first part of this test. Oh? Really I say to them. Yes, now you have wait 90 minutes to wait for help to arrive. Oh by the way, we also made it rain so you could not get out of your truck. I'm still waiting for help to arrive and it's way pass the 90 minute wait.I'm going to past this test so I can drive a big truck. Gee? I wonder if can get any better then this.

I'm sorry to hear about this ImOutOfHere. This is typical US Xpress stuff.....annoys the hell out of me.

New Solo drivers really get screwed in this company with the trucks they get assigned.

Breakdown is difficult to reach. Especially with winter messing everything up. Wish they would hire more people.

People in other departments can be rude for no reason. I suspect the stress level is high at US Xpress. Someone who has been there a long time told me the company let go a bunch of people that had been there a long time & did their job well because they made too much. Cuts the company made when the economy went down the toilet.

Mac 55 is a Message to Max Fuller(CEO of USX). Give him feedback or what I've been told works is posting on the US Xpress Facebook page.

Thanks truck duo. Sad part is I'm not solo, I'm team. Truck has less then 200,000 miles on it. Now I see why there's such a big turn over. You pm me couple weeks ago and gave me your number. I should call you sometime. I will do that macro to Max. Thanks

Call me anytime. A lot of the stuff your talking about.....we've gone thru it. I'll share with you tips that I've learned to avoid the craziness.

US Xpress is better than some of the other mega carriers. Just keep telling yourself that when your frustrated.

They really can't help how long it takes for a road service guy to show up after they call. You'll learn to quit letting that small stuff get to you after you have some experience.

Hey people, just wanted to say that I really appreciate this thread. I've had my CDL for almost a month and have been researching companies online and reading reviews. The reviews eventually become meaningless because there are good and bad about every company. This site has been very helpful though, especially being able to read the day to day experiences people are having.
I'm leaning towards USX for a starter company, I'll probably apply to them tomorrow after I hear from a friend I went to school with if he doesn't have any better luck.
    Anyway...thanks for the insights.

I have 27 years under my belt, done local, regional and otr. Looking at the North of I 4 or Knoxville/Tri-Cities dedicated, I have family in both locations to stay until I find my own place in the area. I have not driven since Oct '12. I am working in a solar to steam plant and our contract ends soon, time to go. Before that I yanked a tank for Indian River for 8 months after taking a 30% pay cut at the solar plant, went back when the customer hired a new manager. Before the solar plant I hauled containers to and from the ports in LA and Oakland. Prior to that I delivered storage containers on a Landoll trailer for over 5 years, covered CA, AZ and NV. Have all endorsements, and a spotless record. I had knee surgery last week and won't be ready for about 2 more weeks.
Should I apply or would they shoot me down?
    Thanks for your time.

You can apply and just put down when you think you can start. Since you just kneww surgery.....might want to give it more than two weeks. The company makes you do some tests first day of orientation. One of them is pick up and walk with 70lbs in a milk crate. You don't want to reinjury yourself.

Good thing is that the company is going to all automatics.
