Looking for another truck. Have all 3406's right now and would like to get another but I am finding lots of C-12's out there. Are any VIN prefixes better or are they the same for the most part? How many miles on average before they need a rebuild?
Are all C-12's the same?

There are some different pre fixes. 9Ns has 40 pin ecm like 5EK 3406E. 2WS has 70 pin. There most likely more difference to them.

I have a 2003 truck with a C12 serial beginning in 2KS. From the factory it was a 1450/1550 split torque motor, but has over 800,000 miles & do not want to bump it up until it gets inframed. No internal issues & still has the factory turbo. Though guessing I just jinxed myself saying that...

I have 669k and 20811 hours and have owned it for 110k miles Mbl prefix. Turbo went out 40k ago and went with a pdi tune and turbo. Thismotor is great

Good bad different on the PDI turbo & tune? That is the route am planning as well via Mr Haney, just not much info when talking about C12's online.

I would avoid MBL I have an MBN and tell everyone to avoid it unless they want to sink money into it unbridging it. Now if you found a very good truck with a low miles well maintained it might be worth itif the price was good. Just know what it is.

Either pdi or a Haney tune will work amazing. He should be less than pdi though but that's a question to ask him.
All it takes is a muffler tune and turbo. Not all that much. Could be much worse like a c13 c15 twins. -
I'm not buying anything newer than 03' so I am guessing I wouldn't need to worry about that.

Yup it's a good little motor
