Aluminum engines. Composite frames. Better aerodynamics (probably focusing on smoothing airflow at underside). Reprogramming cruise so it doesn't use 450+hp worth of fuel when you drop 1/2mph below your set speed on a rolling hill.

We're only talking about going from 6 to 7.2 -- the technology is here, it'll just cost more to buy a new truck...

I dont have working knowledge of whats happening to the price of the freight rates, just what i read on this site LOL- but it doesn't look good.
I was just quoting what was quoted in the first paragraph of that article --i cant say anymore than that or my post will be deleted by the mods -read into it what you will Lucar. ( look at the date i posted and what event happened the next day) LOL
I can say this though, It looks like another nail in the coffin of the working person, driving them out one by one by unmanageable expenses by the little guy.
I really feel for the O/O and the small company's, its just these kind of things that make them disappear --somehow it will cost them.
By the way it affects the company driver too, cause what's left to choose from when the small companies are gone.

That's because he tries to haul light freight whenever possible. If I hauled 4000 lb loads every time I'd average 8 mpg too.

I want to know how they can effectively measure fuel mileage in a big truck. There are so many variables that most carriers spec for there application that the EPA would never get the true picture. Mail delivery vs produce will give you wildly different trucks specs and fuel mileage, just like LTL vs coast to coast. EPA would probably use a truck specd for 40k gross 200hp and auto trans and say thats what everyone should use because it gets the best mileage regardless of application.

it ain't about fuel economy. it's about CLASS WARFARE.
it's about knocking down people he couldn't stand.

That is if we are talking about what Osama (Obama) said.

50% more fuel economy is a dream.
