Animal just think back in the GOOD OLD DAYS you would be counting your change standing in line for a payphone to call home ( before calling cards were thought of ) after heating up a can of pork & beans on the engine of your old B61 MACK for dinner :)

I agree why quit driving if you never worked for a good company plus who doesn't have hvac these days? sounds like a slimeball that you worked for

At the very least keep the CDL. Take time off look around. Maybe find a better geography to work in. Texas much less snow, granted no salt. Railroad? Killer pension. Was the accident reported? Is it on your DAC? Get a state job that likes CDLs. Drive time cut to crap. Streets And sans; fix potholes.

TFF Flatbedder!! You ###### skippy, only my company splurged and we got 379 ex-hoods with big yellow motors that created the fuel and oil shortage. Flatbedding back in the day. All day, all night and my loose leaf paper log never ran out of hours. Then I got to stand in line as mentioned (only I had a prepaid long distance card - only 25 cents a minute so :p on the quarters, they were for laundry, snack machines and the payphones that wouldn't accept the card) and suck up a can (Dinty Moore was actually my personal go-to, wedged right between the radiator top hose and the valve cover; Just crack the pop-top and when you smelled the spill out burning on the motor you knew supper was done - YUM!. LOL. Had to find a pay phone and call in three times a day. Check calls, plus loaded and empty calls.

BTW folks, that's where we get the terms for the "calls" we all put in via sitcom - I mean SATcom now. We had to actually call, usually from a payphone. Good luck trying to find one now. If you do and it actually has a dial tone - PLEASE let me know where it is. Plus, the term "board"; for your DM's fleet? It used to be a dispatcher's actual chalk board and then they moved to dry erase then paper (like the size of a desk calendar) then computers. So that's where the term being on So-And-So's "board" comes from. Dispatchers actually had, literally, their own board on the wall or desk - til computers, When you got in and you were done and going home you literally walked in and erased your name from the "available" side of the board and wrote yourself in as "Home" - and put your home landline telephone number below your name and the date you would be available. They were constantly changing area codes and your number back then. Then they came out with automatic answering phones and you recorded a message. What the h&!! did we call them FB? It wasn't voicemail.

ANSWERING MACHINES! Talk about p!$$ you off? "I spent five bucks to talk to a d@mn&d ##### MACHINE that can't talk back and ther'll be no call back cause I'm rolling and no way to call me!!!!! I ain't spoken to my wife all week and I get this?!! I gotta flat in the middle of BF Arizona and this?!!! TECHNOLOGY SUCKS!!!!"

    Flatbedder; L-M-F-A-O!!!

Yeah; Billy Joel totally nailed it. LOL. The good old days weren't really that good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems.

    Been there. Done that.

You'll ALL adapt to the changes just fine. OR, you'll throw in the towel. In the immortal words of Mr. Joel:

"Either way is OK as long as you can wake up with yourself."

Hmm. Thought deeper than I anticipated.

    Night all.

hmm. I driven and slept in 1981 cabovers, merely an example, that had heat and a/c in the bunk.In fact, every truck that i've ever driven had hvac UNLESS the a/c was out due to failure.

granted i interpret that which i read differently than most as i tend to truly read with all the comprehension i can muster but the sentence of yours i quoted has me perplexed.exactly what type vehicle were you driving that didn't have an hvac system? I've seen the older hot shot(the 1 ton dually back in the day) setups that had the add on small bunk that didn't have an hvac system set up in the bunk but for the most part, each true class eight had its own version of an hvac system.the older the less efficient/less comfortable but all were acceptable.

can you please just satisfy my need to know and advise me the type vehicle that you drove?

i agree that you should not allow your cdl to lapse.you'll find a use for it again down the line.

    A joke with a beard.
A monk takes an oath of silence. Every ten years he's allowed to say one sentence.
After first ten he says: "The soup needs more salt".
Ten more years he says: "The floor is cold".
And ten more years go by , he says: " I quit!"
Other monks reply: " Not surprising, all you did was complain"

I have had a blessed life with a beautiful girl beside me. Few get that. It's more fun than you can have with your clothes on. I am here to share a life made from trial & error. Best thing about advice, use it or not.
We started out in a trans star II . Love for each other & a load was all we needed.
