Better check to make sure your insurable again. The accident may not have been preventable, the police and DOT may agree, doesn't mean the insurance companies will. They set the rules these mega companies and small 1 truck O/O's have to follow.

I agree to look in on your insurance and see what's going to happen there. Whether it was your fault or not, violations result in increases, simply the way they work.
Your question is a bit too open-ended in my opinion without knowing more variables. What sort of freight are you pulling? Dry van? Reefer? Tanker? Flatbed?
Where will you primarily be driving? Long haul, regional, mountains, flatlanding?
What sort of truck should you buy for $50k?
One that you like. This is not easy industry, and if you hate the truck you bought, it ain't gonna' be any easier. -
Don't blame the weather. You made a choice to continue on insted fo pulling over. you chose how fast you went. Jack knifes are always the drivers fault. Conditions can make it easier to JK, but you still need to drive you truck in a safe manor. You clearly didn't. Totaling a truck is a big deal. you additude that its not a big deal shows you haven't learned from it and will likely have more accidents.
500k and a jack knife. Clearly you didn't learn anything in the last 500K and just got over confident thinking your a pro. Pro's dont destroy trucks.cc tanker and nshore harleyguy Thank this. -
I am surprise to read that you are so confident of your skills and you also have 2 years driving. What makes you think accident wont happen to you (I don't wish to anybody). It will come to any of us that is why is called accidentDerailed Thanks this.

I was going to say buy a $30,000 truck and keep $20,000 for repairs/upgrades. But when I saw the part about the accident I agree with the others. Make sure you are insurable.....
mrbmg Thanks this. -
half million miles in less than 3 years..hmm

I see all the super truckers are out in full force. No one ever has accidents. No one is ever insurable after an accident. No one has ever driven 500k miles in 3 years. ####, everyone is just perfect around here.
blazo032 Thanks this. -
Because I treat bad weather with the respect is deserves am am not ####y about it. Bad whether is not this mysterious thing that makes you jackknife around ever corner. It does however mean you need to drive a lot more carefully and slow way down. Thousands of trucks make it through without incident. They all treat the weather with respect it deserves.cc tanker Thanks this.

that's 166,666 / year or 450 miles every day of the year. Do to 70 hour rule you only have 8.75 hours a day to drive. that means he averaged 51mph and every day drove for 8.75 hours. 365 days a year. If your driving like that, then when snow comes, your probably driving way to fast. this guy is a super trucker who though he was invincible.mrbmg Thanks this.
