Remember this, Mr Bergy: When a big truck is involved, there is no safe place. Any statistics they give you about seatbelts don't count. Roll a semi, and those restraints are useless. And somewhere, some Bleeder is thinking, "Well, then children should not be allowed to ride in semis...there should be legislation to protect children!" Isn't there already enough legislation out there to produce a generation of fat, useless teens who grow up to be useless adults who live of their parents until the parents die, then they go on welfare, and the rest of us have to pay for them?
Personally, I think it's great to see a family in a truck. I've known families that did it from the time the kids were born til they had to enroll in school, and they'd go until the kids got too big to be in the truck. My little brother was one of those fat kids that'd camp out all day in front of the TV with his older sisters. He got real fat. I asked Mom if he could ride with me for the summer. I was pulling food service, regional run. Little brother ran with me one summer and lost all that weight.
"Foodservice? That's dangerous. You have to run up and down those ramps with a hand truck."
Yeah, hard work. Pays off real quick. The next summer, I was flatbedding. He would ride with me skateboarding. Got kid brother a road atlas and gloves. You hear these hands all the time that rode with their dad as kids, until they themselves were old enough to drive, and they started driving too. You know how many drivers learned how to drive semi on the farm at age 10? Yeah, I know...dangerous and barbaric. Beats being fat and wimpy. "Oh, but fat and wimpy is safer for kids." Really? When we were kids, we didn't have children committing suicide because of being bullied in school. And bullies were there. And when you beat the bully down in the playground, you'd say to the teacher, "If my dad had found out I was being bullied, he would have beat my arse!"
Hmmm, ever notice how bad things go when we look to legislators to protect children?

Almost 60 years ago when there were no seat belts I got a bloody nose from the Mom seat belt. I still have suspicions it was intentional!

Amen.. That is all truth..Joetro Thanks this.

When my son rides with me he uses his seatbelt in the passenger seat and the bunk restraint when he chooses to sit back there. I wouldn't have it otherwise.

Me personally, my daughter is in a seat strapped in. i have just seen one to many wrecks where lives would not have been lost if a seatbelt was worn. There was one Wensday in Chattanooga. I still will whoop her when she needs it, she can ride her bike, jump out of trees etc.. But in the car or truck she is strapped in. If you dont tthan thats on you, Its none of my business.

umm I think this should be posted in the rant section

Choices? The infant didn't get to choose his/her parents. If so, probably wouldn't have chosen ones whose actions make the statement "hey son/daughter, if we crash you die."

All true but we didn't live in the communication age back then. You didn't hear about all the bad stuff that happened. One rear end and that child becomes your airbag. It might of appeared as one tiny article in a local newspaper if that. Today if something happens in the backwoods of WV the whole world knows about it. There are plenty of kids that have been killed that didn't need to be. But yep the old days were better. I use to love riding in the back of a pick up as a kid. All them painful paddlings made me more respectful towards others. If I got a time out I would have probably laughed. That's not an effective deterrent.

You can't make laws to outlaw stupidity.
I have an issue with the idea that I need to actually do something about it when someone has their kid in the seat without a restrain or in a car seat. I can't see why it is my problem to tell others how to parent, I am too tired of that stuff and if people don't want to use common sense and think, I can't do a thing about it. -
Maybe in a few years you will meet the super trucker than has been driving since he was 2 years old.
