No doubt Cat parts will be available, my point is maybe not AS available as when they were fully in the truck market. Detroit parts are in every Freightliner dealer in the country. Just as Paccar dealers are less likely to also be Detroit dealers, since 2003, the truck dealers may not maintain their Cat affiliations.

This is not correct at all.

A 2ws is the same displacement as a 6nz and can be had at same horsepower. It's in no way shape or form a smaller engine. Lol!!!!!
    I actually own a 2ws and it's in my 2012 westernstar glider.
You want to go with a 2ws,6nz,7cz or 1mm. They all have the 70 pin ECM and will work fine with your newer glider. The 7cz and 1mm being 15.8 L engines not 14.6L

The debate as to which truck engine is best started right around 1935 when diesel engines were first put into truck chassis in large numbers. The debate will never end. There is little point in engaging in the discussion.

I knew that. It's just mainly I heard of smaller hp on those. I had one and it was reliable and bullet proof. It made more then 475 I know that.

I run a 6NZ right now. It's amazing. Don't ask for my fuel numbers because doing what I'm doing we're talking about gallons per mile. But were looking at one of those 2014 389s in black cherry withmthe new 78" bunk amd pulling the motor out of another truck we have and putting it in the glider.

Pre-emission cats are the best. Im impressed with power what I have on my c-15, its mbn but still has good 500 hp on it.

I still say it's a non-issue. CAT has it's on network of shops around the country so why would anyone need support from a truck dealer? Been a long time since they put A models in trucks but you can still inframe one if you need to. Doesn't matter one way or another what OP does he was just looking for opinions. I just voted for what I'd do if I were in his shoes.
