How much do big trucking companies like swift really make before expenses i.e paying drivers, brokers, tax, insurance etc. I hear they make around $5-10 per mile. I was wondering because I was thinking of starting a trucking business headquatered in Texas (no state corporate tax which means I would pay less in taxes therefore I could afford to pay my employees more) and pay truckers what they really deserve. My uncle was a trucker for 20 years and he barely makes 50k a year. I would hire the freight brokers to work for me. I wanted to build a company that pays truckers at least double what they make. Also for background info I am a stock trader and make over 10 million dollars a year so I don't mind spreading the wealth and spending money for the good of my business and employees. But like all businessman know I still have to make a profit. I have 30mn saved in the bank ( I was going to create my own hedge fund with it but thought this would be more interesting to start a trucking business and I could help people) and was thinking of buying 10 (brand new I dont believe in used items) of the most fuel efficient trucks and 10 trailers to start off with. Then I would buy more as I got more jobs and drivers. Then I would buy more trucks and trailers as is needed. I already know a great attorney who could take care of the legal work. So back to the original question how much do the company really make before expenses. I just want to know if I could do this and make everyone a profit and dethrown companies like swift for paying such low rates like $0.40 a mile.

You heard $5-10 per mile?
They lied to you. Swift makes $20/mile.KC Guardrail Thanks this. -
I only want to subscribe because there's no way you can dethrone the Swifts, jb, Schneider. Most accounts are bid on by company's you ever bus the lowest wins. You would go broke paying premium wages. But I want to see what other drivers say .
-
Bahaha... For someone who supposedly makes 10million a year you sure dont know how to research. A simple search would find you the average rate for trucking. Good luck trying to dethrone swift

if you have so much money why invest in trucking? Their is a lot of other business why this one?

If he can drive like he can fib. Man there's maybe a driver somewhere in there. But the fib at least has to be believable. If trucking companies made money they wouldn't be stealing from the drivers like they do. A stock broker would know a trucking company is not a good investment.
double yellow and rockee Thank this. -
Maybe this "hedge fund" he works for does a lot of low margin trading, and he wants to get into a low profit margin industry with huge overhead and regulations...
Dinomite Thanks this. -
If he really was who he says he is, he would already have researched the quarterly reports to figure out what they average per mile, per truck, etc.
Dinomite, lostriver, passingthru69 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ya I'm sure after that last Seals mission, and swimming in your bank vault. You would like to quickly watch it go down the drain for $1.25 a mile freight.
lostriver and koncrete cowboy Thank this. -
Ever hear the answer to the question, "How to become a millionaire in trucking" ? Well .. you will find out if you don't do your homework ...
lostriver Thanks this.
