I sure in the h--l that is not the wave of the future. That is ugly.

 

I've never had to do that. Guys that do that are just trying to show off. Until you hit a pothole and fall off and get ran over by your truck. I'll keep my doors closed thanks.

 

Turbines are NOT more fuel efficient than a piston engine, maybe if it was small enough to turn a small generator to charge a "11 hr battery" lol, but they still SUCK fuel down. I'll stick with my aerodynamic as a barn door COE.

 

I love how truckers are debating whether or not turbines are more fuel efficient then diesel motors.

If you know stuff like that, why are you a trucker? That's my question.

Because I just retired from 20 years in the Marines as a H-1 (Huey and Cobra) helicopter mechanic. I also worked on every type of propulsion engine (flat opposed, radial, turbine, turbo fan, turbo-prop) in high school. I just like driving my own truck under my own authority. I only person I gotta take orders from now is the wife, I can't stand desk jobs and most jobs won't pay what I made in the Corps- but now I make more than I did as a Gunny, and on my own terms.

I do work in energy as my company finances energy projects and can say chalupa is correct saying turbines are more efficient than gas/diesel engines but there’s a catch.

Turbines are only efficient when they run at or very near full power where they easily beat a gasoline/diesel internal combustion engine but they fall behind both when they are run below full power. This is likely why the WAVE concept is using a micro turbine with an electric motor i.e. the electric motor can be variable speed and the turbine runs continuously at full power.
