Wonder what that sounds like idling. Would it be louder then a old cat motor at 1100 rpm all night? If it's quieter then sign me up!
I'm picturing a jet just sitting there with the engines screaming all night hahh

Every manufacturer has messed around with turbines since the '50's (GM was first with the Firebird) and GM had a line of buses coming out in the '70's until the gas crunch hit. Within the last few years cities like New York and Hong Kong have been testing turbine powered buses running those Capstone MicroTurbines and no they aren't very loud but I don't know anything about the outcome of the research except they were seeing mileage numbers higher than their current fleet so hopefully we will be seeing them soon.

No way i like my long nose conventionals, i would have to quit before i would drive some junk like that

Its a neat concept, I can see new trucks headed this way for aerodynamics. Not great looking, but practical. Im not out here to look cool, im here to make money.
Im certainly no engineer, but werent they trying to make a small version of a train's driveline set up?Rockin&Rollin Thanks this. -
Here's a long nose conventional for ya! This is in testing right now ...

Wal-Marts WAVE is much cooler though imo!
mattbnr Thanks this. -
Why don't they go back to cabovers? Almost every other country uses them. Especially in the congested cities like New York and Chicago and Los Angeles an Detroit etc etc. better turning radius.

That's actually a pretty neat looking truck. I'd drive it before id drive a long nose brick with tires. Can't stand them for some reason. I told my current company I would quit if they tried putting me in one of our classics.
-
I don't agree, I think it looks very cool and is cool inside for sure. Here's a YouTube video showing the WAVE in action and the powertrain setup.

It's bad enough the general public sees truckers as idiots but one of our own does too. I know many incredibly intelligent, well read drivers. The drivers I work with are a very smart bunch. Many could be doing other "smart" careers but chose the trucking lifestyle for its many positive attributes not because it's all they were qualified to do. I admit there are many dimwits out here but if you notice the real high paying driving jobs are usually filled by drivers with intelligence. That's my answer.

Indeed and the marine should know that....it's why an Abrams has one, why his Huey has one and 90 %of other aircraft have one. It's why power companies use one to turn the generators to make power. They are indeed expensive to mfg. and operate BUT if you need the HP or can use the waste heat the piston can take a hike.
The piston has to stop at the top and the bottom of the stroke so it's obsolete and inefficient. Has been for years.
Thank you for your service marine.......hope Ukraine is not your next stop.........
