Got a new radio from eBay, from bells cb which I believe is a reputable provider. He tweaked it out and did a lot of things to it and it pushes 26 watts now... I'm a noob on the radio, but I can't use my 50/100/150 linear now with the radio, is this because the radio is overdriving the amp????
people say I sound good, but I'm still not "getting out far". I'm on a mobile, ford f350 with Wilson 5000 mag mount. I have. 102ss whip, but have no where to mount it attractively. Anyhow, I want more power although this radio is loud...
should I have this radio tuned down, and get a linear? My radio won't use the linear due to the 26 watts right?
should I send it back to get a rfx75, or 150 installed? If I had any of these two Rfx devices installed, am I stuck with fixed power or do I get a tuner of some sort to adjust the power?
which would you guys prefer?
New galaxy 959 dx radio from bellscb.

Linear amps prefer a 1watt dead key, and I believe the 959 has adjustment internally for it.
Find a CB shop near you ya trust... whole lot cheaper than shipping and installing rfx's -
Mag mounts, are good but weak. A 102" is ok. Under 2 watts if running a power adjustment device is preferred. Have to run it all the time. The device uses a LOT of voltage. Fiberglass is my antenna of choice.

First of all, those amps used on Cb are anything but linear.
Second, yes those Galaxys have an RF power adjustment knob on the front for driving an amp. However not all amps like 1 watt in. Some can take the 4 watts. It all depends on the amp.
A 102 whip, if you can mount it, will help you get out farther. Wheres and attractive place (to you) to mount your 102? I have mine mounted on my tool box dead center, so the antenna is mid point on the vehicle. I think it looks ok. but it gets out like no ones business. All I have to do is flip the switch on the 4 pill and I can cause a tie up on 26, 28, and especially 38 LSB.
The RFX75/150 are good if you drive a truck and can't run an amp. Otherwise you're better off buying an amp as it'll give you more bang for the buck. It'll be variable since you have the RF power, otherwise it's fixed. You don't really want to run an RFX into an amp unless the amp is built to handle high power. -
Right off the bat, I'd be leery of having an RFX kit installed into a radio that's really only made to put out 4-6 watts on AM, and 12-16 or so on SSB, by a shop who told you that your current "tweaked it out and did some things to it" 959 is "pushing 26 watts" already. The components in there really can't generate that much power. Wattmeters can vary, but the one that gave you your reading has gotta be way out of spec, and certainly not up to the task of adding a built-in RF amp.
As was suggested farther up the thread already, I'd look for a shop that has a spectrum analyzer, or at the very least an oscilloscope to check the audio. Something's way wrong.

I love my rfx75 cobra 29, it's banging loud, clear, and farther than I expected. I'm happy.

102 is ok? Only the best antenna you can possibly run on a mobile!

Your radio will drive a dave made or fat boy four pill very nicely. A straight 2 3 4 5 6 ect pill require a driver but like a 1x4 only need 2-3 watts of drive. See what I mean.

galaxy 959's are excellent radios but-
I think what most are trying to say on here is that you need to have the radio and kicker tuned together.I think the 959 will do a decent job for you but owning one myself,i am not impressed. My galaxy 99 is everything you envision regarding a galaxy and my galaxy 33 is as well.the 959 is just not all that i had initially thought it was when i bought it and the radio tuner i use confirmed it for me as he was attempting to tune it for me.sure he pumped it up but still,it lacks.
i am not bashing on your 959 but i am sharing my personal experience.I own one that is collecting dust basically and I do not even carry it as a back up any longer.Last edited: Mar 7, 2014

I don't like my 959 either should have got my 29 fixed. I don't think it has the range. Especially the receive. All the extra channels are useless.
