I run a 2008 freighter century with a detroit engine. When engine gets to between 1050-1350 rpm there is a bad sputter. Every time it does a big black puff of smoke comes from exhaust. Will not throw fault code. Any help would be welcomed

Do you notice if the outside temperature is low when that happens? My new Kenworth does it maybe twice a day when the temperature is below 20 degrees.

While you have the truck running spray soapy water around the acuator for the turbo and see if it has a leak. Spray around the VPOD and air line to the acuator as well. Start there.
