I'm not even sure where in the forum to put this but I guess this is as God as any section.
I've been at Ozark since November. New driver so after my month with a trainer been out on my own for a few months. My first truck was a 2010 volvo. Comfortable and easy to drive truck but problem after problem with it. Cracked then blown radiator, broken wiper motor, brakes, and a few other issues. It's left me stuck somewhere all of 8 times in the 2 months I drove it.
My last issue was the radiator that was cracked and then "repaired" with Stop Leak blew up as I was heading up into the mountains of WV. They bring another truck for me. '09 Freightliner. Drive it 2 miles to a truck stop, park for the night. Next morning I have no brake pressure and it won't build. Road service shows up and I'm on my way about 7 hours later. I'm now stuck again with more brake issues. No pressure and won't build. Now waiting for road service again.
I guess I'm wondering if this is "normal" for a new driver to have so many mechanical issues? I've been stuck now total of 10 or 11 times in 3 months and every time its been bad enough I can't drive and I end up sitting for 6 or more hours.
Am I just extremely unlucky or is there a bigger issue I need to consider? Like should I look elsewhere to drive because the maintenence here apparently is pretty bad.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

You're certainly not the only one, but the number of breakdowns is unusually high. I'd ride it out, going up the chain of command if you need to. Calmly explain you're not making any money, and ask if they can help you out with this issue.
slim shady Thanks this. -
Sluglife it's not normal to have so many issues in such a short time but it does happens. Can you imagine how many others starting there having the same issues?I don't know how Ozark is keeping ahead having to call rd brkdown all the time.A small company I drove for,I had problem after problem the entire time with them, almost 3 yrs.I doubt it'll get any better there but talking to someone higher up can't hurt. Then if that gets you no where, its time to move on.

The OP is not a "Lone Ranger" with these trk issues, heck, My first year in the industry I was assigned 4 different trks. I am kinda leaning towards the idea that some companys give out less than ideal trucks to newbies. With the high turnover and 1st year accident probability it kinda makes sense in a way. At the end of the day, you are leaving money on the table which would mean its time to see if the grass is greener elsewhere.
Csnemrod Thanks this. -
I totally understand not getting a new truck from the start. I was more than happy to get into the volvo with 570k miles. But just seems unusual to have so many breakdowns. Talked with other drivers in the company and I don't ever hear from them about breakdowns. And I haven't really talked to anyone about mine so maybe it's just one of those things you keep to yourself. I like the company alot I'm just pretty tired of breakdown after breakdown. I just didn't know if this was normal.

Wouldn't say it is normal...but it does happen. I am on my 4th truck in a little over 90 days with my new job...4th one is a keeper though! When you voice your frustrations just be professional and state the facts. In my short time in this business I have witnessed numerous drivers let their emotions get the best of them. I would imagine Ozark doesn't like the truck(s) breaking down either.

Yes, that is very rare, but very possible. Stranger things have happened.

That would make me seriously doubt that companies maintenance program.
Was it "repaired" at Ozarks shop like that? Or on the road? -
The shop. Thinking being that they are retiring all the volvos in the fleet and didn't want to spend the money to replace the radiator. I drove it like that for few weeks. Every time I'd climb a hill I just KNEW that would be the one that killed it. I did have alot of concern after that.

I'd be weary of any larger company running a large portion of it's fleet past 400k miles. I know you can't get them to answer you honestly in a pre-hire interview, but a company with a bunch of trucks older then 4 years and/or 400k miles is 1- a company trying desperately to keep it's head above water, and 2- a company that can only promise a lot of time sitting for it's drivers who don't make the cut to get one of the few newer trucks.
A truck with 400k + miles and single owner/driver is one thing, a truck with 400k + miles and 30 different drivers, in a company that hires new and/or unhappy drivers is another thing altogether. No, it's not surprising to hear your story.
