Hiya, I've been driving with Schneider as a company driver for a few months now and I'm thinking about becoming an O/O. I'm going to purchase my truck outside the company and am thinking about going with the percentage option. Is there anyone out there who has recently started on the percentage program? I'm looking for advice from someone who is currently driving for Schneider on the percentage program and started in the last year or 2. Here are some of the questions I'm looking to gt answered:

    1. Should I purchase a new or old truck?
    2. How much hometime/vacation time do you take on average?
    3. The website says ~130k a year. Is this actually true? What does take home pay a month look like? (Just an estimate)
    4. Can you stay in a certain area in the US? (I'm not too fond of the NorthEast/East)
    5. Are you required to work certain times or take a certain amount of off time? (aside from the HOS regulations) Like, can I work 1 whole month and take 2 weeks off (if I wanted)

I may have more as we go along. Thank you for the help!

Thank you very much for the response. It did help a lot. I have a few more questions if it's ok.

    1. When you say you purchased the truck from Schneider, do you mean you leased and then bought it? I've heard many people have issues with leasing because of the high weekly payment. My plan was to purchase outside and lease to them. That way my payment would be one monthly payment and it wouldn't be so heavy. Maybe around $1000 a month.

    2. My dispatcher sometimes has trouble getting me home. Are there good loads around the midwest/west? I hear driving in the East pays better. But I really don't like driving NorthEast.

    3. Are you being paid by mileage or percentage? I feel like if I go by percentage the midwest won't be so rewarding.... :(

    Thanks again!

. We did a one year lease with the option to continue after the year. We just started in July and weren't sure if we would like it so a one year deal was a good idea. The lease works much better for tax reasons too. There are a ton of loads in the Midwest. Lots to Iowa and MN. also stuff out of Texas heading that way all the time. We are on percentage. That is called the Choice program. Your current dispatcher works off the same load board we do but we see the loads as soon as they confirm, sometimes a week before and have the option to choose it then. Where you guys get what's left after Choice has their loads. I tell you that the whole Schneider finance team is working for you. Go back and read the posts by diesel fuel only. Start with his first thread about being company and then read his adventures in Choice(he just started last week) that may help as well.

Schneider has its own sub-forum on here with lots of info at http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/schneider/. There is a thread from a new O/O on the choice program (what Schneider calls their percentage program) that just started on it this week at http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-adventures-continue-dfo-gets-truck-hops.html so the info on that thread is as current as you can get.

There are lots of other threads in that section with additional info and that is where most Schneider drivers, O/O and company will be found so you will probably get more responses posting your questions there.
