All JCT new hires are Lease/Purchase drivers but if I'm correct, there may be a couple of company drivers left. Trafficcontrol is certainly a much better person to answer that than I am, but that is what I understand after following a couple of threads.

Obviously you have no idea what it takes to be a lease operator. It is a step to become an owner operator unless you are fortunate enough to be able to get your own truck. With jct, it'll take 4 to 5 years of HARD WORK AND SACRIFICE on home time if you want to be successful in the end. Disagree with that statement. How is being a L/P driver a step up from company driver? Most L/P's fall in the hole so much that company drivers make more than L/P's do. Also L/p is not a step to an O/O. Totally different deal there. Most L/p deals are rip-offs.Cman301, Toomanybikes and ramblingman Thank this.

Here is the deal. The JCT L/P program DOES work quite well IF, and ONLY IF, you are pretty much a single person with little to no personal life commitments. The other way it works well for drivers is IF their spouse (with no kids), lives on the truck with them. So, if you have fully grown children, no home commitments, then it works great, that I will concede to. The other thing you have to understand, is that If JCT has a load they need covered, and you are the only truck in the area, then regardless if you have "approved" time off scheduled, you WILL take that load, period. I ran into that predicament myself with JCT, I had received "approval" for home time because I had a commitment. However, they had a load near where I was that was going in the opposite direction I needed to go. I refused the load (suppose to be able to that as INDEPEDENT CONTRACTOR), and then they routed me to JCT and terminated my lease, without ANY arbitration or whatnot. They LIED to me, I had plans to stay at JCT, pay off my truck after hard work and "live the dream." The FOOLS in management decided I wasn't JCT material. So, in my opinion, JCT L/P program is basically treating you like an employee, not an independent contractor. Because as an independent contractor, according to IRS rules, the company can't dictate or FORCE you to take a load, because then in the eyes of the IRS, JCT is an EMPLOYER of yours. Just my two cents from my experiences there. Oh, and Mr. John Christner himself? I've spoken to him on the phone, and he doesn't care a lick what his management is doing to these drivers so long as his family continues to grow rich off the backs of hard working drivers who sacrifice leaving their families for longer than the company tells you, so you will sign that lease and the truck will be rolling on their books bringing in revenue for the company. John Christner, in my opinion, is a prime example of corporate greed built on lies, threats and intimidation, not to mention JCT causes severe financial hardship for many who come through those revolving doors. JCT, kiss my arse.

You my friend, obviously were not cut out to be a lease operator. First of all, there is no "approved" time off. You tell them when you want to be home and it happens. I don't work for JCT, nor do I have to do anything I don't want to. Of course, it behooves me to help them out in a time of need. Favors go a looooooong way here. Now if a swap, relay, or repower cuts into my business profit, sorry Charlie, no can do. I operate a business and use JCT as a tool to give me my loads. Its never personal, just simple business.
Time off is time off. They would have never terminated your lease for refusing to take a load for them. There are underlying reasons to your termination, that much is sure.
I have to disagree with most of the previous 4 or 5 posts. You DO NOT have to work yourself to death, nor do you have to sacrifice personal time off. I used to take 1 week off each and every month and had no problems staying profitable. This past holiday season, I took off 10 days for Thanksgiving, and came back out 5 days in December, then took the rest of the month off and didn't come back till January. Never missed a beat. I know several people here that take tons of time off, have paid off their trucks and are making money.
Its doable, very doable, especially with the new lease agreement. You simply have to be a good business person. Being a good or even great truck driver has nothing to do with whether you'll succeed at JCT or not. Sure, it helps, but people forget that this is a business opportunity, not a truck driving job. For those that are new to the business concept, JCT provides plenty of support to help you stay profitable, be it in the form of driver mentors or one of several full time staff personnel that do nothing but HELP.
So it really upsets me when I read post from other people that have failed at JCT (or any company). Maybe its not the company. Maybe its the driver, especially if they bounce from company to company. Just my opinion.MachoCyclone and Alanp613 Thank this. -

I've read this over and over and over again,and not just about any one certain company but all of them.It makes perfect sense to me,why would they be SO anxious to front just about anybody and everybody a rig? I think people will slowly start to realize the truth behind that set-up. I haven't started driving yet,but when I do I'm cuttin a wide square corner around those lease options. That still doesn't explain why the turn over rate is so high if their lease purchase is such a wonderful dream come true for all involved? they only have around 800 trucks and we constently read about drivers joining JCT here on this forum. no telling how many more who are doing this that we dont hear about.
From what i have read here on this forum, the L/P is setup in such a way that one cant fail. so why the large number of new hires at JCT every week or so?
