My detention starts after 30 minutes so I can't complain.
I know it's apples and oranges.
Why do companies allow their trucks to sit over 24hrs at a customer? Just doesn't appear to be good business sense. I know it happens sometimes but some of these customers keep all trucks there for hours on end.
I guess the only reason is the customer knows if your company won't, some other one will.

Dang Striker, You've got yourself a sweet deal there.
I didn't even know most of that was possible. You must be expedite or flat, right? And your leased on?
We lowly company employees can only dream about things like that 'cuz they'll never be our reality where we are. Pity me. lol

I scratched my head about that too. If my company truck was out of service by a S/R for that long, I'd get my panties in a wad and kick some butt. However, I've learned 2 things...shippers have all the power, and we can refuse a load that we know is going to take an army of idiots 8 hrs to get us empty. There's a place in Houston that comes to mind, and we will not go back.

But your last sentence is dead on...too many tweedle-dum's and tweedle-dee's out there that will literally do anything for a buck. Correction...make that a quarter.

I get $20 for the first 2 hours then $15 per hour after that. I hate the first 2 hours when the company uses it but love the $20 on a 15 minute drop hook. The company bills the customer around $40 per hour so I get paid regardless of whether they collect or not.

This is as a company driver. It's SOP in tanks. I believe Marten is doing something similar with reefers. It doesn't have to be this way. Shippers need trucks as bad as trucking companies need freight

Marten only claims to be doing it. Marten may be the company this guy use to work for. I hear a lot of guys from Marten crying about the detention scam. Also some of the companies I have seen who do pay it want you to be onduty not driving. While getting detention. NO thank you. I'll get my 8 or 10 and hit the road jack.

Did they provide you with an "employee manual"?

Well, 92.7% of those behind the wheels of trucks should be working at fast food joints instead.

Well yeah I would rather be rolling too. At .47 a mile I would make much more than $15 per hour.

It is nice to know I am getting something while waiting. Been waiting 4 hours as I type this. Went and grabbed some lunch off duty and am getting paid for sleeper berth time now. It works well come paycheck time if you can make money without burning up the 70.

    Dinomite Thanks this.

congrats to the OP for having the stones to quit there is no reason to stay with a chickenpoop outfit that has shown their hand and and expect the driver to accept crumbs. I have a question for others on this thread slamming the OP who is wearing bigboy pants the guy who just takes it and says that the way it is or the guy who says this is not right and sets a course of real change.

A course of real change in one's DAC, future employment, and credit rating... is there anything else...? Shall we assume replacing a driver of 8 years with a rookie will teach that carrier a lesson they'll never forget?

I have "responsibilities"... and those preclude impulsively up and quitting over a few bucks, or what might be a misunderstanding.

Wearing big boy pants does not include throwing a fit, in my book. YMMV.

Are these "big boy pants" the stained sweatpants or the oversize shorts drivers wear with their flip flops.
