Does anyone use virgin mobile? if so, how does the service perform over the interstate and highway system. I'm looking for a phone to take on the road and hoped to find some people with first hand knowledge.
Thank you

There's a section for Electronics which covers these sort of questions... Electronics Den, or whatever... go to the main page of the forum, scroll down, you'll see it.

For over the road Verizon is the best. They may not be the cheapest but have the best coverage nationwide.

I had Virgin and had to switch to Verizon. No signal in Montana, Nebraska, and parts of many other central states. No signal on any mountains or whenever you are in the middle of nowhere. I don't recommend it for OTR. I have a no-contract Verizon phone and haven't had a problem in most areas,

Every provider is going to have dead zones out west. Even with my Verizon phone, there are stretches where I've had no signal. The guy I ran OTR for.... when I go to his place, no cell phones have any coverage there. There's a section of CO9 on my way to Kremmling where I have no coverage.
That being said, Verizon is still my choice. -
AT&T has pretty good coverage in Montana and the rest of the west. NYC? Forget about it. 4G in Deer Lodge, MT. No signal in parts of manhattan.

I run WI to CA never more then 4-5 miles without service with Verizon
