Trying to figure out why you would want to not have the lights on. I want to be seen as soon as possible. If I thought I could get away with putting a strobe on top like a schools bus I would.
-
Well, after you almost get your hood ripped off by some pinhead steering wheel holder passing you in the daytime, you'll change your mind..
They see the headlites on and assume your flashing them over.
Not even paying attention as to whether their clear or not..
Flipping idiots..... -
After 23yrs of driving, I think I can figure out WHEN I want my headlights on, and when I don't.
Imagine a low battery and the headlights are pulling @10amps all on their own.
Imagine trying to be nice, and flash someone over when the headlights are on all the time anyways.
So on and so forth.
Anyone with experience will want rid of them.
Those without experience will happily be oblivious to the bad of the deal, and those that dont drive everyday wont see the point at all of doing away with them.

The real problem is what they do to your headlamps. If the 2 high beam only lights were use I would keep them. The day time running lights feature kills the reflector and filament. It makes the lights yellow. With them being your low beam, they need to be in top condition so you can see at night with the low beams.

I'd like to figure out a way to wire the DRL circuit to a set of auxiliary lamps, rather than the headlights. Perhaps a pair of amber lights mounted in the bumper or something.
On my 04, pulling the DRL breaker somehow renders the instruments inoperative, so I'm still trying to figure this out. -
Ditto on that. I tried both the fuse and the breaker, and both screwed various things up. The best solution, is the procedure outlined farther above, took about 10 minutes. What you could do, if you wanted some other lights, would be to run a key-on circuit for them, so they go on or off with the key. But then again, you run the risk of the 2 things most of us are trying to get rid of in the first place. I have driven with a dead alternator, and the heater off, watching my amp gauge on the minus side, calculating if I could make it home before those idiot driving lites ran may batteries too low. Things to consider anyway.

The other thing you can do is open the dash cover by the brake valves and connect the two wires together that are on the switch on the back of the park brake valve. In Canada I have to have mine hooked up for safety every six months so I just wired mine to a dash switch and shut the switch of at safety time and when safety is done flip switch on till next safety.
04 LowMax Thanks this. -
I totally never thought of that. Great idea! BTW your safety is 6 mos, not yearly?

Then your park light stays on. The switch opens when you supply air. So now you get to drive around with the park light looking at you.
