We have a 55 ton, 3 axle (4th axle flip) stretched lowboy. My question is the dealer said even stertched all the way we can still carry 110k true? If we can't axle out on a load can we stretch out a little and axle out because of the wheel spacing? And this might be a dumb question but if we are heavy on steers can we move the fifth wheel back to take some of the weight off ? I hope this makes sense the way I worded it.

So you are a H.H. and not know these answers. I'm not answering....
Well on the stretching it out and capacity. Depends on the brand, but when opened all the way, I do not know of a brand that will carry 55 ton on 50' in the well. I could be wrong, But the 55ton I'm running you can't open 50 and putt 55ton and hope it won't break. Alot depends on where the main weight sits -
Call manufacturer and ask for customer service. It's what they do.
Heavy steers, well I won't answer that because you didn't put forth enough information to bring a correct conclusion. Only have enough information to speculate, and I'm done speculating, figured the luck might run out at the wrong time.passingthru69 Thanks this. -
I have been hooked to the same truck and trailer for awhile and never had to move anything and if weight was an issue for the rear axles we put the stinger on but now I was put under a Fontaine and it sits different, heavier and no stinger just a flip 4th. And to be honest never pulled a stretch before. About the weight, the dealer said it would but everything tells me no. The trailer will through a pretty good bow when stretched but still not sure about that.

Tell me you have a 4 axle truck.
You're asking about sliding the 5th wheel. Makes me think you have a 3. On a 4 axle, you would be looking to slide the fifth wheel forward, not backwards. You won't be able to stretch that trailer out and get anywheres near capacity with a 3 axle truck.281ric Thanks this. -
arent the ratings open and stretched on a plate somewhere on the trailer so you can see what te manufacturer rated it at?

Most trailers don't have a data plate for each hole. But if you contact the manufacturer they can give you your weight reduction per hole or foot of stretch. I do believe its 5,000 per hole and after X feet it increases to 10,000 lbs per hole. The builder will be able to give you the info.

Don't ever believe the sales man, that's truckin' 101.
Your trailer will derate it's capacity with each hole stretched like Dogcatcher said. Better to make a couple phone calls than bow the trailer negative and ruin it with a heavy load.
lota ways to move weight on the tractor, if yours is 4axle. Hope it's not a 3, good luck, way to much trailer.rockyroad74 Thanks this. -
No it's a 4 axle truck. Like I said I have never used a stretch so it's all new to me and just looking for info from ones who have used them. I didn't believe the salesman at all, he told me that and I just looked at him and said ok. My gut told me that he was full of it. But any info is very much appreciated .

Can you shim your deck/bogie? (Modular). You can shim Fontaine's like a booster or deck plates in big trailers. Puts more arch in your deck for heavier loads.
