It is pretty hard to get a route set up the day before, since the freight comes in at night/early morning on line haul, for delivery that same day. At least that is what I have seen.

that's right Don if you're ups/fedex old d that has multi state yards. our place was smaller and while we had some guys that worked at night no one did line haul. plus we didn't cross dock. our runs were set up with skeleton apts 2 days prior and then filled in with what open apt freight came in after that. we also made p/u's after we got empty so in essence we were bringing in the "line haul" stuff every afternoon.
josh...
i read that you did flat bed. will you be going out with a trainer on monday or are they throwing you into the fire? -
They are throwing me into the fire, a plus is I go out empty nake however many pick ups then come back. No deliveries. I think ill be alright. My biggest concern is the backing into docks. I never had to running a skateboard around. Jist going to take it slow

that's nice of them! grab a roll of shrink wrap if you can. will you have to sticker your own po's onto the freight?
-
Yea, they have barcodes that peel and stick onto the fright with po numbers on them. Hoping tgats all ill need lol

i think you'll do just fine. now that i'm invested in this thread you #### well better get on here sometime monday night and let us know how you made out.
oh and don't be surprised if you feel it come tuesday. especially if you have swing doors.

Ill be on tomorrow, for sure!Big Don Thanks this. -
well, how's it goin'?

One thing nice about starting at a place is they don't throw you in the fire right away. Starting at my company I learned the trailer swaps first. From there they start to add stuff at whatever pace the dispatcher decides. Just take your time with the docks if you need to.

Hey everyone,
I know i said that i would be on the next day but WOW did that go bad lol.. Start off by saying i only worked two days with this company. Monday and tuesday. I got to do a total of 14 stops in these two days and almost 1k miles. Some of the places they sent me to were the smallest docks ever and i actually found it fun and challenging too see how easily i could get in these places. I went to a dock in Cincinatti right downtown and had Vet drivers in from of me who couldnt hit the dock and i bumped it first try, very proud moment lol
Anyway I dont know who remembers but i started with the expectation that these are 10 hour days for a flat rate of 170. Not great dough but i would be happy with that. I show up to work monday at 4:30 A.m. hoping to be out of there by 3, well i got out of there at about 6:30 and thats just to the yard. I still had to do my paperwork, dock, and get ready to leave. I chaulked it up to this being my first day and maybe i was just a little slow, I did get turned around a few times soo whatever. I was told this is usually not the cause. So i show up monday at 4:00 A.m. thinking if i get a early start there is no way i would have a day like that again. i could not have been more wrong. I was not back to the yard untill 7pm When i brought it up to them i was over my hours, they asked for my log book. riped that days page out and said "Look, you havent worked at all today" REALLY!!! So i told the guy since i had never showed up and i must have no called no show, I assumed i was fired, I droped the keys in front of him, emptied my truck and left.
Now dont get me wrong, I dont care to work my 14, Hard work has never bothered me but i WILL NOT run illegal and i WILL NOT work and not be fairly compensated for it. I have spent the past days job searching and i found a local run to hold me over. Pay is only 15/hr but im going to stay and get my Hazmat and see if something better comes along.
Leassons learned i guess.snatale42 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this.
