I have been looking over the forums for the past month and I decided it was time to make my first post.
I just spoke with a guy at the Truck Driver Institute in Sellersburg IN about going there for training. So this is how the conversation went.
Classes will be 7:00AM TO 5:30PM Monday Friday with 1 night class. Total hours of training will be 145 hours CDI/TDI
Cost $6,000 with a loan or $5,000 cash. (Holy cow!)
Job placement seems good. I read a lot of reviews about this school and it was a mix of good and bad. The one thing I did notice is all the students got job offers after their first week there.
Here is a list of who they recruit their students to.
BOYD BROTHERS, COVENANT, FALCON, H.O. WOLDING, KLLM, RIVER CITY, ROEHL, SCHNEIDER, STEVENS, SWIFT, TMC, TRANS AM, US EXPRESS, USA TRUCK, WERNER, PTL, STAR and DART.
He told me the average starting pay for new drivers is $300 to $600 for the first 3 to 6 weeks of training and $780 ($0.26 a mile) to $1,050 ($0.35 a mile) a week after training with the company that hires me.
So my question Is this setting off your BS meter? Do any of you know of any other schools in the southern Indiana/Louisville KY area? Suggestions would be helpful.
Looking at schools.

Also going to be looking into Ivy Tech community college in Southern IN. It is a hour drive but from what i read community colleges offer better training at a more affordable price.
Here is what they say on their website
The CDL-A Truck Driver Training program is designed to prepare students for the Indiana CDL examination. Ivy Tech is partnered with SAGE Technical Schools to provide CDL training based on the renowned curriculum of the Professional Truck Drivers Institute (PTDI).This curriculum will act as the basis for national standards and rules for truck driver training schools. Driving time includes 46 hours of over-the-road and range instruction, utilizing a one-on-one delivery. -

Why pay 5-6k when you can just go to Swift or the other companies for half that and get the same training and the job pretty much without question?

You can do better; bump it up to a 160 hr. school and get even more job offers. That's too much money when a community college charges probably 1/3 that amount.
Looking at the list of companies, I notice the high paying companies aren't listed. A good 160 hr. or longer school and you can make real good money with:
System Transport
Melton Truck Lines
Superior Carriers
CTL Transportation
SVTN
Trimac

I heard there is a school in Atlanta that only charges $2000 or $2200. I think they said Americas Driving Force or Americas Driving Fleet. Something like that. Anyway good luck on your journey and I hope things work out for you.

Old post but will respond anyway. I went to the school mentioned above. Americas Driving Force located just outside the perimeter on 2-85. I paid cash think about 2500 or so. 90% at least were there paid for by the state of GA Dept of labor. Half the peooles driving or arrests record would have kept them out of a job anyway.
