Of the 7 people in orientation at Sunnyvale, I was the only one on the forum. Did run into a curent Melton driver that is on the forum tho.

1st day of oreintation went well, got threw everything just fine, drive test and backing, no problems there, mostly talk with Russell, he's the guy that runs the oreintation class, seems to be a descent guy, The truck we did the drive test in, has a 13 sp trans, but the trucks that we will be driving once out of oreintation are 10 sp, They use to be all 13s wish they still where, but im sure i can get use to the 10

Well I just got my CDL over the weekend from Roadmaster and am thinking of applying here. I have applied at several companies but really want to get into skateboarding. A few have issues with an old shoulder surgery thats all healed and I have worked in sheetmetal since then so I know it'll be fine for tarping. Also some dont like my time off being a stay at home dad, oh well. My question is, Is Melton a decent starter company? I am not so much worried about big money, 6-800 a week take home is fine. I am big on getting some good training and experience OTR and securement. I have read several different posts and it seems like a decent enough place to consider...

I was a stay at home dad for 3 years before I started driving. Did 1.5 years at another company before I came to melton. Melton didn't ask anything about it. I could be wrong but I think 6-800 take home is a little high of an expectation. You'll definitely hit 6-800, but it won't be every week. I've heard that drivers with no experience get somewhere in the mid 30's CPM starting out. I generally bring home 6-800 every week, 1100 take home every blue moon.

i like it here so far. Hometime could be much better, I'd like to see 2 days off for every week out but thats not gunna happen.

I have found them to be a very good company. Good securement training with even more if you go with a trainer. They provide a good ref book and man the phones for any questions. The $600-800 is a pretty safe bet once you have a little experience; takes a month or two to get things settled in your mind and body. I have been from east coast to west coast. Guaranteed you will see Laredo and Canada is avail. If you are flexible and play by their rules you will do well.

I say this with just 7 months experience with them and minimal dry van time. Your mileage may vary.

3rd day or oreintation is over, so far everything still looking good, just one more day, Thank hevans, going stir crazy, but I was informed they will need to fly me to Birmingham,Al to get my truck, as they dont have enough in the Dallas terminal, Now I wasn't forced, just they came into oreintation and ask for two that would be willing to fly to another terminal to get a truck instead of waiting for how ever many days it would take, so... wanting to be helpful I raised my hand and said, as long as you cover the cost of both my bags, witch will need to be checked, I'll fly, they said no problem, we'll cover everything, and thanks you for volunteering

They'll fly you Southwest Airlines. If Bham is anything like Ohio your truck will be ready and waiting for you.
