Burning both ends of a Candle? Can't seem to get an atta boy. Driving with urgency. Anyone that told me that would be listening to a dial tone. You are working for a Jack#@%! Your doing the best job you can and it still isn't working, what's that tell you? Your going down the wrong road to success. If you don't change things quickly you will either quit, get fired or crash. Sounds harsh but no need to sugar coat it. Good luck driver.

FWIW regarding GPS's, my company used to be in the "NO GPS EVER! IF YOU DO YOU'RE FIRED!" category until they signed up for NaviGo over the Qualcomm after a few bridge strikes and weight restricted road violations in rapid succession by various drivers in various cities. The policy has since changed to use the NaviGo every time and if it leads you into a problem like a low bridge or weight restricted road you're off the hook as far as the company is concerned. In the time since it has been noted by many drivers that in addition to being slow, often telling you to make a maneuver too late to do so, it frequently blanks right out just when you need it most. As for OP, well, I won't believe he's not fired until he makes it through a terminal at least once. What I've seen out of the bigger companies is that they won't say a word about you being in trouble until you get the truck back to them because they don't want drivers vandalizing the trucks, maxing out advances, etc. I'd also strongly suggest that OP needs a new DM, if not a new company, if the loads are truly timed that tightly.

    Buck 83.
I once worked for a company that didn't allow drivers to communicate with customers. I didn't care. I called them anyway. Especially if in the northeast. Got ragged on a couple of times but I just told them it was the best way to get in there safely.

Problem with him calling customers is that his employer has him by his nuts.
I think it is better for now he doesn't violate any compagny rules.
There are plenty off way to plan a route without calling the client.

I hope he gets a lawyer to at least get a lesser charge.
It would be money well spend.

    Goodluck OP and in future...................GOAL.:yes2557:

    STOP!!! STOP !!!

It is just that simple people !!!
Don't panic and do the bull in the china shop thing !!

It took until the 20th post on here for the one thing that could have saved the OP all these troubles he is now facing.
No matter how bad you think it is at the time the thing to remember is that by stopping you can help to not make it worse .
Just look at all the youtube videos of all the truckers makeing their situation worse by not just stopping and thinking before they do something even more stupid .

So there you have it new guys advice from a old timer !!
What you do with it is up to you but I promise you will last allot longer in this industry by just stopping and slowing down !

No matter what dispatch says you have time to look and plan to prevent this type thing.
If you don't then you were going to be late any way.

True story. Dispatch for a load guy says "No hurry." Next day I blast off @ 7AM. 1/2 hr out of the yard ph rings it's him. Can ya be back to town by 2pm. Nope. Well try your best. Sure. 3 calls later during the day he figures out it's just not going to happen. Your problem isn't my emergency.

get another gps? why not learn to utilize a trucker atlas and go against the company policy and call every shipper/consignee? what will they do-fire him for picking up/delivering the load timely and safely? i don't even own a gps in my phone, much less depend on one on my dash and over 2.5 decades later,i find/get to where i am going.wonder how that works?

also this is a great time for you mega/slow truckers to reconsider the practicality of a cb radio.I understand that you will have to extricate those ear buds but a cb will get you to 95% of the places out there as there will always be a driver that has been there before.simply key up and ask,an antiquated and novel idea that works.

Buy yourself a small tablet laptop and get Microsoft streets and trips. It takes a few minutes to plot out a trip THEN check it with your GPS. I NEVER BLINDLY FOLLOW A GPS. That's recipe for disaster as you found out. Coordinate between your GPS and streets trips to plan your route. Restricted roads can be found in atlas you can get in truck stops. GPS are great tools but don't rely on them. I had a PC miler and it tried to lead me down the garden path regularly, I now have a rand McNally truck gps and it hasn't yet, but I'll never give it a chance.
