Iv been driving local for many years and never had to usea log book. I recently changed jobs and was put on a four day OTR team run. We switch every ten hours, when we arrive back at the home terminal the company sends who ever drove last home and has the other driver run a local route. My question is, would there be a way to legally keep our logs and arrive home with both drivers out of or low on remaining service hours? (e.g. switch every four hours?) We both would like to avoid being sent on a local route upon our return.
New to logbooks

I don't think it would take your employer long to figure out your master plan.

Someone with the regs in front of them correct me if I'm wrong...If you're going home from the terminal, are not dispatched or under a load, you should be able to drive home and log it as off duty.
-
I have no idea what you just said.
-
Your really a top model employee, aren't you?
-
Only way this could happen is you both manage to log close to 70 hours of on duty time in 4 days.
-
One of you could sit in the passenger seat while the other drives in for the last 10 hours. You'd have to log at least 8 of that as on duty.

To the O/P if you have available hours and your break status is up to date and time I would think your employer can require you to work. I would make darn sure I'm the one behind the wheel upon arrival at the terminal. But on the other hand I never have run teams and never will, there is no one that is good enough of a driver for me to sleep and them drive, won't even let my wife do that when we are on vacation.
djjerrylee1 Thanks this. -
simply refuse to make the local run.tell them that you have plans for your time off and they do not include being in a truck.you could ask them to either put you local or otr but not both.
djjerrylee1 Thanks this.
